At Boom Supersonic, we're building Superpower — a 42-megawatt industrial gas turbine designed to deliver high-efficiency power generation at scale. Our first prototype is being assembled right now, we're standing up the production facility in parallel, and we're hiring the person who will build the supplier base that keeps that ramp on schedule.
Boom is seeking a world-class Global Supply Manager (GSM) to own the end-to-end sourcing and supply chain strategy for metals (alloy, castings, forgings), precision machined parts, electrical & controls, supporting systems, etc. (commodity). The role requires close partnerships with third parties such as partners and suppliers. This role will collaborate closely with planning, engineering, finance, and legal teams,& logistics, and demands strong quantitative and analytical skills, critical thinking, the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, and quickly get up to speed on technical topics, especially manufacturing processes.
This role requires a proactive mindset, cross-functional influence, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-impact environment where technical excellence and execution speed are paramount.
What you'll do:
- Lead the end-to-end RFx cycle, including identifying strong suppliers, preparing and issuing RFQ(s) to potential manufacturing and supply partners; performing thorough analysis and evaluation of responses; executing supplier capability assessments, driving negotiations for optimal terms; advocating a path and securing internal approvals; and nominating the selected partner(s) that meet Boom's strategic objectives.
- Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to orchestrate seamless New Product Introduction (NPI) and efficient scaling to production, and participate in design reviews and change control meetings as the supply chain voice in the room.
- Develop, align, and execute comprehensive commodity strategies to meet Boom's long-term supply chain objectives and effectively partner with stakeholders to inform and influence executive-level decisions.
- Gain a deep understanding of the supply base; fabrication and assembly processes, materials, lead times, global trends and dynamics, emerging technologies, and other nuances to enable proactive decision-making.
- Evaluate global supply chain risks and develop robust contingency plans to support Boom's production ramp.
- Ensure Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), General Terms & Conditions, Piece Price Agreements, develop long term agreements aligning supply with business needs.
- Own supplier relationships end-to-end — establishing performance metrics and scorecards, resolving disputes, and running periodic business reviews — to keep cost, quality, and delivery on track.
- Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders, understanding their needs and consulting with them to build quality procurement strategies aligned to business requirements.
- Manage all relevant master data in MRP to ensure accurate and complete information at all times. Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure demand signal accuracy and acceptable line of balance with supply.
You probably have:
- 5+ years of experience in sourcing or procurement.
- Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in manufacturing, process engineering, or product development.
- Understanding of costing concepts, cost reduction, and modeling.
- Excellent data-driven decision making, problem solving, and analytical skills.
- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across engineering, operations, finance, and legal teams to drive alignment and execute sourcing strategies.
- Ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships, ensuring strategic collaboration and mutual growth.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time.
You will thrive here if:
- You treat the supplier base as something you actively build and manage, not a list you inherited.
- You move fast on sourcing decisions and re-plan without drama when a supplier falls through.
- You'd rather drive a supplier issue to resolution than report it and wait.
- You're comfortable in a lean, high-accountability environment where "the supplier missed it" is never an acceptable final answer.
- You want to be part of something that actually matters — and you'll be proud to tell people where you work.
