Bound

Engineering Intern

About Bound

We believe an athletic director's job is one of the most critical in a community: to shape the lives and experiences of student-athletes. But as we listened, we learned that with dwindling budgets and growing responsibilities, they’ve had no choice but to spend more time managing logistics than leading their teams and programs. After countless conversations, we gained a deep understanding of their challenges, from handling transactions to managing schedules and tracking results.

This insight was the catalyst for Bound. We created an all-in-one platform to give ADs back their time. With our OneSchedule Technology at its core, our platform integrates essential tools like Activity Registration, Tickets and Passes, and 20+ additional solutions. Today, Bound empowers schools across the country to manage every aspect of their athletics and activities, all within a single, unified solution.

We're not just a software company; we are a team made up of former athletic directors, administrators, coaches, parents, and fans. We all share one core belief: in the power of youth sports and activities to positively impact communities and the people who live in them.

About the Role

As a Summer Engineering Intern at Bound, you’ll get hands-on experience building software that powers youth and high school sports across the country. You’ll work alongside our engineering team on real projects—from feature development and bug fixes to data analysis and new product prototyping. This is an opportunity to learn fast, ship real code, and make a meaningful impact on a growing platform used by hundreds of schools and organizations.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Development & Maintenance

  • Work on foundational system components to help keep the Bound platform stable, scalable, and efficient.
  • Contribute to new features and applications under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Fix bugs, troubleshoot issues, and improve existing functionality.

Project Support

  • Collaborate on new product initiatives, including applications and external data integrations.
  • Participate in code reviews, system design discussions, and process improvement conversations.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with developers, QA, and stakeholders to deliver solutions that align with business goals.
  • Share progress, ask questions, and communicate challenges effectively within the team.

Data Analysis & Visualization

  • Help build reports and data visualizations for internal teams (Sales, Marketing, Customer Success) and the public web.
  • Identify gaps in data and work with the team to address them.

  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python).
  • Basic understanding of web development concepts (HTML, CSS, front-end/back-end fundamentals).
  • Ability to work on-site or hybrid in the Ames area for the duration of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience with .NET Core, React, Vue.js, PostgreSQL.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
  • Interest in or experience with data analysis, reporting, or visualization tools.
  • Involvement in sports as a player, coach, fan, or organizer.

Who You Are

  • You're curious and self-directed. You don't wait to be told what to learn next.
  • You thrive in ambiguity and get energized by figuring things out rather than following a rigid playbook.
  • You communicate openly. You ask questions when stuck, share progress without being prompted, and can explain technical work to non-technical people.
  • You care about the details but don't lose sight of the bigger picture. Shipping something real matters more than making it theoretically perfect.
  • You're competitive in the best way. You want to get better every day and you bring that energy to the people around you.
