Use Your Skills to Make a Meaningful Difference

We are looking for a dependable and experienced Maintenance Technician who takes pride in solving problems, completing quality repairs, and helping residents feel comfortable in their homes.

This is a hands-on position supporting two South Bend apartment communities. You will complete service requests, prepare apartments for new residents, troubleshoot building and equipment issues, and work with the maintenance and property management teams to improve the communities.

The right person will be reliable, respectful, and comfortable working in an active residential environment. You do not need to know how to repair everything, but you should have a strong general maintenance foundation, good troubleshooting skills, and a willingness to keep learning.

What You'll Do

Your duties will include:

  • Responding to resident maintenance requests and completing repairs professionally
  • Troubleshooting and repairing common plumbing, electrical, appliance, carpentry, and general maintenance issues
  • Assisting with basic HVAC troubleshooting and preventative maintenance
  • Preparing vacant apartments for new residents, including repairs, painting, and final inspections
  • Identifying property or safety concerns and communicating needed repairs
  • Maintaining accurate work order notes, photos, and completion updates
  • Keeping work areas, maintenance spaces, and job sites clean and organized
  • Supporting seasonal property needs, including snow and ice removal
  • Participating in a rotating on-call schedule for true maintenance emergencies
  • Communicating respectfully with residents, coworkers, vendors, and property leaders

What We're Looking For

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have at least two years of hands-on experience in apartment, residential, commercial, hotel, facilities, or building maintenance
  • Can independently complete common repairs and know when additional assistance is needed
  • Have experience with plumbing repairs, electrical troubleshooting, appliances, unit turns, painting, or carpentry
  • Are dependable and understand that residents and coworkers rely on you
  • Take ownership of your work and follow through on assigned repairs
  • Can prioritize urgent needs while managing routine work orders
  • Are comfortable using a phone or tablet to update work orders
  • Can safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform active physical work
  • Have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record

Multifamily industry experience is helpful, but we also welcome applicants with transferable experience from hotels, hospitals, schools, commercial facilities, construction, manufacturing, or residential repair.

What You Can Expect From Us

  • Competitive pay based on your skills and experience
  • A consistent Monday–Friday daytime schedule
  • Clear expectations and support from an experienced Maintenance Supervisor
  • An on-call rotation shared across the maintenance team ($100 on-call stipend)
  • Allowance for tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment
  • Uniforms, shoe allowance, phone stipend, and mileage reimbursement
  • Health benefits within 30-60 days
  • 3 weeks paid time off benefits, as well as paid holiday benefits
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Hands-on training and opportunities to build maintenance skills
  • A supportive team that values reliability, respect, and helping others

Work You Can Be Proud Of

The work you complete will have a direct impact on residents and the community. You will be able to see the results of your efforts, build relationships with the people you serve, and play an important role in improving the property over time.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.
