Position Location: Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning Centre

Report To: Early Learning Assistant Director (Care and Compliance) and Director of Early Learning

Award / EA: The Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning Agreement 2025

Qualification: Business Administration and/or Early Childhood Education and Care qualification (preferred but not essential)

Burgmann Anglican School provides a supportive, contemporary education within a Christian framework. It is a co-educational Independent, Anglican School, that offers a tailored learning environment for children from six months through to Year 12, across two campuses. Burgmann is structured into four sub schools: Early Learning (6m-PK), Junior School (K-Y5), Middle School (Y6-8) and Senior School (Y9-12).

The Early Learning Centre, located on the Valley campus, provides education and care for children aged 6 months to 4 years old. We have two Pre-Kindergarten programs, one located on Valley, and one located on Forde campus. These provide education and care for children aged 4 to 5 years old, in their year before formal schooling.

The school prides itself on its innovative and creative approach to curriculum and education and its strong sense of community and pastoral care of the students and their families and the staff of the school. The school has a strong link with the Gungahlin Anglican Church which shares facilities and resources with the school. The Early Learning programs are an important part of our school.

Position Objectives

Assist with the daily operation of the Early Learning programs, including frontline support for children, families and staff of both the Early Learning Centre and Pre-Kindergarten programs. Assist with enrolment, orientation and attendance queries and procedures whilst developing positive partnerships and relationships which support families and the Burgmann Anglican School community.

The focus of the Early Learning Administrator role is to provide direct administrative support to the Director of Early Learning; coordinate Early Learning enrolments and supervise the Early Learning administration team.

Key Responsibilities

In relation to the National Quality Standard (NQS)

QA2 Children’s Health and Safety

• Provide a healthy, safe and welcoming environment and ensure that children and families are welcomed to the centre.

QA4 Staffing Arrangements

• Share housekeeping tasks related to the centre with other staff.
• Participate in an annual performance development review process.
• Assist with the orientation of new staff.

QA5 Relationships with children

• Develop and sustain strong and respectful relationships with all children.
• Assist with orientation processes and procedures for new children.

QA6 Collaborative partnerships with families and communities

• Establish and maintain links with both the school and local communities, resource agencies, government authorities, and other relevant organisations.
• Maintain general communications with families – newsletters, general information etc.
• Actively encourage and support parental involvement within the Early Learning Centre.
• Assist with enrolment and orientation processes and procedures for families.
• Support families throughout their child’s time at the Early Learning Centre.

QA7 Governance and Leadership

• Ensure all practices are in accordance with the NQS and reflect the philosophy, policies and procedures of the Early Learning Centre.
• Develop, maintain and support respectful, supportive, collaborative and responsible relationships with staff across all areas of Burgmann Anglican School.
• Work cooperatively with Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning management and all staff to ensure the Early Learning Centre operates in a safe work environment and that staff follow safe work practices.
• Attend staff meetings to facilitate effective communication and internal staff development of the Early Learning Centre.

 General Responsibilities

• In undertaking all duties, work in accordance with the requirements of:
• The Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010 and the Education and Care Services National Regulations 2011;
• The National Quality Framework (NQF);
• The principles, practices and outcomes detailed in the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0;
• Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics; and
• Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning Centre’s philosophy, policies and procedures.
• Provide assistance with the daily operation of the Early Learning Centre.
• Assist in maintaining accurate enrolment, attendance, absence and subsidy information, including assisting with the management of Child Care Subsidy Software (Qikkids).
• Provide frontline support for children, families and staff of the Early Learning Centre, assisting with registration, enrolment, orientation and attendance queries and procedures.
• Be actively involved in the development and implementation of Burgmann Anglican School Early Learning Centre’s Quality Improvement Plan.
• Build trusting professional relationships with the educators through successful monitoring, mentoring and support.
• Operate in a professional manner at all times
• Other duties as directed.

 General duties

• Reception duties telephone, email, customer and general enquires
• Director of Early Learning diary management
• Support Early Learning Assistant Directors and Pre-Kindergarten Educational Leader as required
• Resources and consumables management
• Supervise attendance management
• Lead the maintenance and updating of ELC forms
• Assets register management
• Meeting minutes management
• ELC tours management
• Liaise with contactors and visitors on behalf of the Director of Early Learning
• Dietary and Medical information management
• Organise and distribute lockers, keys, passes and uniforms
• Early Learning enrolment management (working directly with Director of Admissions)

Selection Criteria

1.       Knowledge of the National Quality Framework and Standards and a commitment to the implementation of these processes. Working knowledge of statutory requirements, regulation and legislation relating to the provision of Education and Care Services.

2.       Highly motivated and committed individual with an ability to work independently and in a team environment.

3.       Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

4.       Demonstrated ability to provide ongoing support to the Director of Early Learning and/or Service Nominated Supervisor in all areas of administrative procedures, family and community liaison and staff professional development.

5.       Effective problem solving and negotiation skills.

6.       Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain culturally appropriate relationships with a diverse range of services providers, internal and external stakeholders by encouraging and recognizing the value of such diversity.

7.       A sound understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and its implication to ensure a safe and healthy work environment in education and care services.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

• A current Working with Vulnerable People (ACT) card
• First aid training as prescribed in the Education and Care Services National Law Act 2010
• Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management training
