Status: Permanent Part Time – Term Time Only - 7am to 1.30pm Monday to Wednesday

Line Management: The Kitchen Hand is directly responsible to the Chief Operating Officer through the Canteen and Cafe Manager.


Responsibilities


The Kitchen Hand is responsible for supporting the Canteen and Cafe Manager in the efficient daily operation of the School’s food service areas.


Primary Duties

  • Assist with kitchen food preparation for canteen meals, snacks, and lunch orders.
  • Receive and unpack deliveries.
  • Maintenance of strict food safety standards.
  • Cleanliness of the kitchen spaces and appliances.
  • Provide friendly, consistent, and efficient customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

Additional Duties:

  • Deliver professional front counter service for the Cafe and Canteen.
  • Prepare and serve a range of hot and cold beverages to barista standard.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Canteen and Cafe Manager.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Qualifications and/or experience working in a cafe or other food service environment.
  • Barista skills and hands-on experience in coffee and beverage preparation (highly regarded).
  • Food Safety training.
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly as part of a small, close-knit team.
  • Proven customer service skills, with a warm, welcoming approach.

Salary, Terms and Conditions

The successful applicant will be employed under the Independent School ACT (Professional and Operational Staff) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025. Salary will be determined according to qualifications and years of experience.
