We are looking for a DevOps Manager who will lead a team of experienced professionals in optimizing our cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and developer tooling to scale efficiently while fostering innovation and agility.
Role Overview:
The DevOps Manager at Campspot will be responsible for overseeing the infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and cloud costs for the company. You will lead a team focused on improving developer productivity, system reliability, and platform scalability. A key aspect of this role is to drive cost efficiency, enhance the developer experience, and maintain compliance with industry standards. As a hands-on manager, you will balance technical leadership with team mentoring and be involved in both strategic and tactical execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cloud Infrastructure & Cost Optimization:
- Leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, specifically Terragrunt, to architect and manage cloud environments.
- Reduce cloud costs across AWS and SaaS tools using a FinOps framework, with a focus on reporting and data engineering.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to reduce latency and optimize system performance.
- Contribute to capacity planning and cost forecasting models for AWS infrastructure.
- Developer Experience & CI/CD Enhancements:
- Drive improvements to the developer experience by enhancing CI/CD pipelines, promoting higher developer ownership and velocity.
- Shepherd the completion of the CI/CD migration and help shape its next phase for continuous improvements.
- Implement and maintain developer-focused tooling and automation to reduce friction in the software development lifecycle.
- Monitoring, Incident Management & Observability:
- Oversee the implementation of monitoring, alerting, and incident management systems, utilizing tools like Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, and OpenTelemetry.
- Evaluate and improve current observability solutions, balancing cost with efficacy.
- Team Leadership & Coaching:
- Manage, coach, and mentor a team across DevOps, Security, and Release Engineering domains.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, promoting professional growth and learning.
- Compliance & Security:
- Serve as the technical lead for maintaining and improving compliance with SOC, SOX 2, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Collaborate with the security team to evolve processes around data privacy, security, and incident response.
- Ensure access controls, change management, and security best practices are followed.
- Vendor Management & Financial Oversight:
- Manage vendor relationships and contract negotiations, including AWS Enterprise Discount Program and various SaaS tool contracts
- Collaborate with other engineering managers to manage budgets for cloud tools and services.
Key Requirements:
- Experience:
- 5+ years in DevOps or related roles with a strong background in cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline management.
- 2+ years managing team members, particularly in shared-services teams with internal and external customers.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), especially Terragrunt, and developing reusable modules.
- Solid knowledge of AWS cloud services, including cost optimization and capacity planning.
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry) and incident management practices.
- Proven track record of driving cost efficiency, particularly in cloud spend.
- Leadership & Collaboration:
- Experience leading and mentoring cross-functional teams, with a focus on coaching and professional development.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to pitch new ideas persuasively, especially to C-suite executives.
- Excellent collaboration skills across engineering, security, and operations teams.
- Bonus Skills:
- Familiarity with data governance, including access controls, data architecture, and retention policies.
- Experience with capacity planning, AWS cost projection models, and FinOps.
- Background in compliance, particularly with SOC, SOX 2, or similar regulatory frameworks.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Base salary: $160k-$190k annually

While Campspot is a remote-first company, priority will be given to candidates located near our Grand Rapids, MI headquarters or in our Denver, CO and Chicago, IL metro area hubs. Secondary consideration will be given to candidates who reside in states where we currently have employees, including CO, IA, IL, ME, MA, MI, NY, NC, OR, SC, TX, UT, VT, and VA.. Candidates located outside of the US or any of the states listed previously are not able to be considered at this time.
