Staff Accountant- Part Time Benefits Eligible

This will be a part time role at 20 hours a week

Hybrid 2 days in our Burlingame office

Pay rate is $30-$35 an hour & eligible for benefits


Role:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing expense workflows, revenue reconciliations, and month-end close processes. This role also supports the organization’s annual audit and preparation of IRS Form 990. The Staff Accountant collaborates across departments and serves as a key point of contact for internal finance-related inquiries and communications.

Responsibilities:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for the following:

Expense Management and Reconciliation

  • Manage accounts payable processes and vendor payments
  • Process corporate credit card transactions
  • Review, code, and allocate invoices across departments, grants, and programs
  • Prepare and complete monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations
  • Maintain vendor records, collect W-9s, and assist with 1099 reporting

 

Revenue Coordination and Reconciliation

  • Partner with the Development team to reconcile pledges, contributions, and donor revenue
  • Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain donor revenue schedules and reconcile restricted and unrestricted funds

 

General Ledger, Payroll and Schedules Support

  • Record journal entries for accruals, payroll, prepaids, allocations, and adjustments
  • Maintain and reconcile accounting schedules (e.g., fixed assets, prepaid expenses, deferred revenue)
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes to ensure general ledger accuracy

 

Audit and Compliance Support

  • Assist with preparation for the annual audit, including reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documentation
  • Support the completion of financial data for IRS Form 990, including revenue, expense allocations, and grant disclosures
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready files and contribute to compliance with internal controls and nonprofit accounting standards


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.  Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, particularly with non-finance staff
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy                                                 

 

OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience supporting nonprofit audits and IRS Form 990 preparation
  • Familiarity with GAAP, fund accounting, and tracking of restricted grants
  • Knowledge of audit documentation and external reporting requirements
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements
  • Proficiency with accounting and productivity tools such as Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Bill.com, Divvy, Google Workspace, and Asana
