Client Services, Employment Readiness Program

Community Action Partnership of Hennepin County's (CAP-HC's) Employment Readiness Program assists residents with lower incomes in attaining living-wage jobs and removing employment barriers. The program includes resume support, interview readiness training, finding job leads, and maintaining employment.

 

Position Summary

The Employment Services Coordinator provides services to participants through assessment, counseling, educational planning, and job development. They help people overcome challenges, set training, and career goals that lead to self-sufficiency. The employment services coordinator offers support and encouragement for participants as they work to achieve their goals and after they obtain employment. The coordinator also provides services in the way that best serves their participants, which may be in person or remotely using email, telephone, and teleconferencing technologies. Additionally, the employment services coordinator is responsible for coordinating and implementing programs which include developing training materials, reporting, outreach, recruitment and engaging with community partners.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Participant Services: Conduct screenings to determine eligibility for the program, complete intakes, and enrollment. Accurately assess clients’ interests, aptitude, skills, motivation, and barriers to employment to determine work readiness. Develop individual employment plans and assist participants in accessing the public and private resources to meet goals outlined in the plan. Help participants develop and strengthen work behaviors and employability. Ensure services provided are culturally responsive utilizing best practices.
  2. Training: Develop and conduct small-group job search skills and basic re-employment skills training sessions. Provides individuals with job counseling, job preparation, job search, interview readiness, and/or support services in attempts to match clients with available employment, training, or other opportunities. Facilitate employment readiness training using the curriculum, Getting Ahead in a Just-gettin-by World: Building Your Resources for a Better Life.
  3. Outreach and Partnerships: Educate businesses and community at large about the Employment Readiness Program CAP-HC and other agency services. Establish effective relationships with area training institutions to increase participants skill levels and job market competitiveness. Research employment opportunities and network with employers to assist clients with job search. Market the program to potential clients, community agencies and organizations, and educational institutions. Collaborate with community partners to achieve favorable employment outcomes for the individuals being served. Such partners would include employment providers, social services, industry representatives, and education providers.
  4. Budgeting and Cost Control: Monitor and manage the budget for the Employment Readiness Program. Distribute incentives and support services in accordance with agency guidelines and policies.
  5. Program Management: Develop, organize, and maintain files, functions, workflows. Maintain organized and accurate detailed records of files and data entry in client management systems. Track and report outcomes. Comply with program and agency guidelines.
  6. Team Leadership: Provide training or support as needed. Diagnosing and troubleshoot issues and provide input on program guidelines, practices, etc. Work in collaboration with the team and leadership to enhance the program. Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education, associate, or bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred; significant professional experience may substitute for formal education. One or more years of experience providing employment counseling services. Demonstrated history of consistent and stable employment.
  • Expertise in identifying interests, skills, capabilities, and barriers to employment. Knowledge of the local job market and employment trends.
  • Complete Bridges Out of Poverty and Group Facilitator training provided by Getting Ahead within sixty days from the date of hire.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills required, including public speaking skills and group facilitations. Fluent in English.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • An open and flexible schedule which may include occasional evenings and weekends. Reliable transportation. 

Preferred Qualifications and Desired Competencies

  • Two or more years of experience providing vocational/employment counseling, case management, or vocational rehabilitation services.
  • Demonstrated people skills, including collaborating with a team, working across program areas, disseminating information effectively and conflict resolution.
  • Reliable, a high-performer, and a nimble learner.
  • Competent in critical-thinking skills and able to organize ideas, including analysis, inference, and evaluation.
  • Excellent at balancing multiple projects requiring attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to prioritize.
  • Experience working with people of diverse cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Understanding and knowledge of community resources in Hennepin County.
  • Bilingual or multilingual (Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Arabic, Swahili, or Amharic).
  • Able to concentrate in a busy office environment and respond to frequent interruptions.

Details

  • This position is at CAP-HC's Bloomington location. Travel between locations and community organizations is part of the job. 
  • The in-office schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. A flexible (start and end time) work schedule may be possible. A hybrid schedule may be available after ninety days.
  • Benefits available for full-time employees include Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, STD, LTD, PTO and 12 Paid Holidays.
  • Job offers are contingent on a reference check and background check.

The pay range for this role is:

25 - 29 USD per hour (CAP-HC - Bloomington)
