The Director of Delivery Excellence is responsible for making delivery predictable, scalable, and repeatable across the firm. This role owns delivery standards, quality, consistency, and continuous improvement—ensuring every engagement meets expectations for scope, timeline, margin, and client outcomes.


This is not a PMO leadership role and not a compliance function. It is an operator role focused on improving how delivery actually happens in the field, reducing risk, increasing margin, and enabling practices to scale without chaos.


You will partner closely with Practice Area Leaders, PMO, and Customer Success to turn best intentions into repeatable execution.


Key Responsibilities

Delivery Standards & Playbooks

  • Define and maintain delivery frameworks, playbooks, and engagement models across all practices
  • Standardize delivery phases, artifacts, quality gates, and handoffs without slowing teams down
  • Ensure productized services have clear scope, acceptance criteria, and success metrics

Quality & Predictability

  • Own delivery quality metrics (on-time, on-budget, scope adherence, client satisfaction)
  • Conduct delivery health checks on active and at-risk engagements
  • Lead post-mortems and ensure lessons learned turn into real changes (not documents)

Margin & Risk Management

  • Identify systemic margin leakage and delivery inefficiencies
  • Partner with Practice Area Leaders to improve estimation accuracy, scope control, and delivery economics
  • Serve as an escalation point for delivery risk, scope creep, and execution issues

Enablement & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive adoption of delivery best practices across pods and practices
  • Create lightweight training, coaching, and enablement for Delivery Leads and Architects

Governance (Lightweight, Practical)

  • Establish just enough governance to ensure consistency and transparency
  • Ensure delivery data is visible, accurate, and actionable
  • Avoid bureaucracy—optimize for speed with control

Experience

  • 12–18+ years in professional services delivery
  • Background in data, analytics, automation, or enterprise technology consulting
  • Experience operating at scale (100+ consultants)
  • Has owned delivery quality, not just run projects
  • Experience in Big 4, top-tier consulting, or high-growth services firm strongly preferred

Skills & Traits

  • Strong operator mindset—practical, decisive, and outcome-oriented
  • Deep understanding of how delivery actually breaks in the real world
  • Comfortable challenging senior leaders when delivery risk exists
  • Excellent communicator with credibility at all levels
  • Data-driven, but not bureaucratic
  • Respected by delivery teams (not feared, not ignored)
