Capitol Advisors on Technology is recruiting a Records and Information Management Specialist to join our team supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The mission of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is to protect the American people, safeguard our borders, and enhance the nation’s economic prosperity. CBP takes a comprehensive approach to border management and control, combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection into one coordinated and supportive activity.

About the role

The Records and Information Management (RIM) Division provides oversight, guidance, processes, and tools that enable CBP to govern and use information as a strategic resource to successfully safeguard America’s borders and facilitate legitimate trade and travel. 

What you'll do

Records and Information Management Specialist duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and coordinate with stakeholders and NARA to produce records retention schedules for paper, electronic, and IT system records.

  • Analyze existing records to determine General Records Schedule or agency-specific retention schedule coverage.

  • Review and certify that minimum RIM requirements are integrated into IT system functionality.

  • Develop or present records management-related training.

  • Conduct client-facing meetings to identify records management-related compliance gaps and develop and support strategies to close those gaps.

  • Analyze, develop, and write operating procedures.

  • Develop, write and edit RIM guidance.

  • Recommend and facilitate quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

The ideal candidates must:
  • hold a Public Trust or higher federal security clearance.
  • possess a bachelor’s degree or other equivalent degree program, or additional four (4) years functional area experience.
  • have a minimum of two (2) years of demonstrated related experience.
  • Records/systems scheduling experience is strongly preferred. 
  • travel to Ashburn, VA at least once a month.
In addition, the ideal candidate should have:
  • A strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize work and productively manage time. 
  • Independently plan, organize, execute, and track projects as approved by supervisor.
  • Collaborate constructively with a wide variety personalities and skill levels in a virtual environment. 
  • Demonstrated clear, concise, and professional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill to efficiently use office technology (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams).
