QueensCare is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization originally founded by the Franciscan Sisters of Sacred Heart, whose mission of compassion and accessible healthcare continues today. QueensCare provides screening, treatment, education, and preventive and direct care to Los Angeles area residents in need. Beyond that, we also give charitable grants to other non-profits making a difference in the City of Angels and fund scholarships for those entering medical fields with an interest in working in underserved communities.


About the role


QueensCare Health Alliance is seeking a Lead Optical Assistant to join our Mobile Programs team. In this role, you’ll help expand access to high-quality vision care for underserved communities across Los Angeles County. Working under the direct supervision of the Mobile Programs Manager, the Lead Optical Assistant will supervise Optical Assistants, coordinate scheduling, and support the delivery of comprehensive eye care services through our mobile clinics. This is a hands-on leadership role that blends technical expertise in optometry assistance with strong patient care and team management skills. It offers the opportunity to make a direct impact by bringing critical vision care to communities that need it most. You’ll gain experience in mobile healthcare delivery, work with a supportive team, and play a vital role in improving patient access to eye health services.



What you'll do

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support Optical Assistants in daily service delivery.
  • Coordinate school screenings, site visits, and scheduling of eye exams.
  • Lead onsite screening teams, assign roles, and oversee setup of mobile services.
  • Prepare patients for exams, perform preliminary tests (e.g., visual acuity, autorefraction, tonometry, visual field testing).
  • Assist with frame selection, lens fitting, eyeglass orders, distribution, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using electronic health record systems (Revolution).
  • Manage inventory of eyewear, tools, and mobile unit supplies; ensure equipment is calibrated and functional.
  • Serve as a point of contact for schools, parents, and partners regarding scheduling, orders, and patient needs.
  • Support mobile unit operations, including setup, cleanliness, and vehicle readiness.
  • Participate in outreach and community events to promote eye health.
  • Collaborate with internal programs and external partners to enhance services.

Qualifications


Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an Optician Program or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience in optometry or a related field, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity, preferably in a clinical or mobile healthcare setting.
  • Skilled in working with patients of all ages and diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Experience supervising staff or leading teams preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of optical terminology, equipment, and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHR systems (Revolution preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a mobile healthcare environment.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Flexibility to travel daily across Los Angeles County; occasional evenings and weekends required.

The pay range for this role is:

29.48 - 36 USD per hour (US National)
