Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and coordinate daily breakfast and dessert pastries following established production procedures and systems.
  • Plan pastry production in coordination with meal service to ensure quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.
  • Maintain food safety standards and proper handling techniques in compliance with company policy and local regulations.
  • Ensure supplies and ingredients are available or secure approved substitutions in time for preparation.
  • Keep work area clean and organized; clean and maintain equipment used in food preparation.
  • Complete food temperature checks before service as required.
  • Assist with meal service, including setting steam tables, serving food, or supporting other workstations as needed.
  • Help with unloading, inspecting, and storing ingredients and supplies.
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks such as dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, and garbage removal.
  • Support special event meals (e.g., recruitment, homecoming, celebrations) as directed.
  • Represent Upper Crust Food Service positively in daily interactions with clients, student members, and staff.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency in food preparation.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn pastry and baking techniques.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow all sanitation and safety procedures.
  • Positive attitude and adaptability to changing tasks.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required.
  • 1–2 years of customer service experience required.
  • 2-5 years of professional baking experience required.
  • Experience in a bakery or similar environment preferred.
  • Valid food safety and sanitation certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment).

Special Demands:

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work in a busy kitchen environment with heat, steam, and noise.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals and kitchen hazards (hot surfaces, knives, slippery floors).
