About the role
We are seeking a Project Developer to be responsible for all aspects of site development, including site evaluation and selection, securing all project entitlements, and pursuing interconnection agreements for electrical and natural gas. This role is also responsible for project management, of the design-development process for PurposeEnergy anaerobic digester plants. For a critical ~12-month period of time, the Project Developer will be the primary client-facing liaison for PurposeEnergy as a digester project moves from a sales phase into development and execution.
The successful candidate will demonstrate leadership 1) to the client – managing project development meetings and working as the primary point of contact for the project; and 2) managing the internal PurposeEnergy Team, ensuring milestones are met and that budgets and schedules are up to date.
Key Responsibilities
- Locating property appropriate for digester plants, screening multiple sites to identify candidates, determining availability, reviewing feasibility with engineering colleagues and negotiating pricing;
- Leading entitlement and other site permitting processes including zoning, variances, site development permits, stormwater, traffic/access permits and curb cuts;
- Securing environmental permits including wastewater, air quality/air burn, plant installation (where required) FERC and others as necessary;
- Identifying and managing attorneys through Letters of Interest, Purchase and Sale, title due diligence, and closing processes;
- Identifying contractors, scoping and contracting for site due diligence including traffic, geo-technical analysis, utility availability, Phase 1, natural resources and endangered species, topographical survey, ALTA survey and other standard due diligence processes;
- Creating and managing schedules and budgets for design, development and permitting up through the start of construction;
- Managing utility connections to the site, ensuring adequate service, cost clarity and schedule certainty;
- Leading electric utility interconnection processes and potentially design development for co-generation where biogas drives on-site generation as well as offtake of electricity and/or renewable electricity attributes;
- Leading gas utility connection and design development for bio-gas clean-up and pressurization skids as well as offtake of biogas and/or biogas attributes;
- Coordinate with the Purpose Energy team of sales, finance, design, and construction professionals engaged in the development phase of the project to ensure effective delivery of the project;
- Serving as client-facing project lead running client meetings and ensuring follow-through on outstanding tasks;
- Prepare internal project funding approval documents including coordinating with other functions in the business to support document completion.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable history of successful real estate closings, entitlements achieved, permits received, interconnection agreements signed, and/or comparable accomplishments in the fields of real estate and energy.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, experience will be considered equivalent.
- 4+ years’ experience in real estate development and project management.
- 4+ years’ experience in energy project development.
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with strong focus on teamwork and interface with a broad range of work groups.
- Ability to analyze project risks and proactively identify solutions with a flexible, creative, and solution-focused outlook on problem solving.
- Strong prioritization and multitasking skills with the ability to operate in a complex, rapidly changing business environment with typically tight schedules and demanding targets.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office, various scheduling tools, and cost management software.
- Self-starter and can manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Effectively provides and receives information orally in individual and group situations. Written expression is clear, concise, and conveys the desired message.
- Fanatical focus on customer service to ensure internal/external partners receive above-and-beyond support.
- Ideal candidate will have experience with anaerobic digestor project development
Compensation and Benefits
- $110,000-135,000 depending on relevant experience./Competitive salary based on experience.

Travel/Location
- This role is based in our Headquarters is in Salem, NH.
- Overall 20 - 30% travel is anticipated, but it may be more at times.
