About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced SQL Server Database Administrator with expertise in both on-premises and cloud deployments (SQL Azure and AWS RDS). The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in database management, optimization, and security practices, combined with a deep understanding of cloud-based platforms. The candidate will be responsible for managing large-scale enterprise operations including both multitenant and multiclient instances of SQL Server with Always On and replication to external clients.  Describe the role and team the candidate will be joining.

What you'll do

    • Maintenance & Support:
      1. Monitor health and performance of SQL Server databases both on-premises and in Azure, as well as databases hosted on AWS.
      2. Regularly perform database maintenance tasks including backups, indexing, and consistency checks.
      3. Provide support for any database-related incidents and outages.
    • Migration & Integration:
      1. Lead migration projects from on-premises SQL Server environments to SQL Azure and/or AWS RDS/other AWS database solutions.
      2. Work closely with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration between applications and databases.
    • Performance Tuning:
      1. Optimize and fine-tune SQL Server databases and AWS-hosted databases for optimal performance.
      2. Diagnose performance issues, identify bottlenecks, and implement solutions.
    • Security & Compliance:
      1. Ensure all database servers, including those on AWS, are patched and secured in line with company and industry standards.
      2. Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive data.
      3. Regularly audit and monitor access to databases, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
    • Capacity Planning:
      1. Project future database growth on all platforms and collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure appropriate resources are allocated.
    • Documentation & Training:
      1. Maintain detailed documentation of all database architectures, processes, and policies across both Azure and AWS platforms.
      2. Provide training and mentorship to junior DBA staff and other IT personnel.
    • Disaster Recovery:
      1. Design and implement disaster recovery solutions across SQL Server, Azure, and AWS environments.
      2. Regularly test and validate disaster recovery procedures.
    • Collaboration:
      1. Collaborate with developers to optimize queries, stored procedures, and overall database performance across all platforms.
      2. Participate in IT projects, providing expertise and guidance related to database architecture and best practices.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA, with strong expertise in both on-premises, SQL Azure, and AWS database environments.
  • High proficiency in T-SQL, SSIS, SSRS as well as AWS RDS and SQL Azure technologies.
  • High proficiency in SSMS or equivalent database management tooling.
  • Well versed in Configuration and support of Windows Native Clustering and SQL Clustering and SQL Always ON technology. 
  • Excellent knowledge of Database backup and recovery of very large databases, typically multi terabytes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and best practices across platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Agile development practices and the ability to deliver within defined sprint cadences. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Microsoft SQL Server and AWS certifications a plus.
