OVERVIEW

Caribou Thunder is seeking an experienced and highly motivated IT Systems Design Engineer to join our team. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing complex IT systems to support our organization’s needs. The IT Systems Design Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in IT systems engineering, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to solve complex problems with innovative solutions. 

REQUIREMENTS

The IT Systems Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing IT systems that align with the organization's strategic goals. This role requires a strong understanding of Systems IT architecture, technical specifications, and business requirements, with a focus on disconnected enclaves, DOD-specific frameworks, and virtualization technologies.

1.    Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications for systems.

2.    Design and develop system architectures, including hardware, software, and network components.

3.    Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, such as design documents, system specifications, and user manuals, including DODAF drawings and documentation.

4.    Oversee the implementation of IT systems, ensuring they meet specified requirements and integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure.

5.    Conduct testing and quality assurance to identify and resolve defects in compliance with industry standards.

6.    Provide ongoing maintenance and support for implemented systems, including troubleshooting issues and making necessary updates.

7.    Design and implement virtualized environments using VMware and other virtualization technologies to optimize system performance and resource utilization.

8.    Collaborate with other teams, such as IT Administration, Cyber Security, Networking, and operations, to ensure the successful delivery of IT projects.

9.    Stay updated on the latest technological trends and best practices relevant to DOD systems to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.

10. Apply knowledge of the Systems Design Engineering lifecycle throughout all phases of projects.

11. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

1.    Must have CompTIA Security+ with Continuing Education (CE) or equivalent certification under DoD 8570.01-M

2.    Experience with VMware vSphere and related virtualization technologies

3.    Experience with database management systems (e.g., SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL).

4.    Knowledge of network technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, routing, switching) in disconnected environments.

5.    Familiarity with operating systems (e.g., Windows, Linux).

6.    Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).

7.    Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.

8.    Experience with design and modeling tools (e.g., UML, Visio).

9.    Project management and collaboration tool experience.

10. Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies.

11. Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)

12. Experience with other virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V, KVM) in addition to VMware.

13. Understanding of virtualization concepts and best practices in enterprise environments.

14. Experience in designing, implementing, and managing virtual infrastructures.

15. Proficiency in creating and interpreting DODAF drawings and documentation.

16. Strong understanding of the Systems Design Engineering lifecycle.

17. Ability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.

18. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

19. Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards relevant to DOD (e.g., NIST SP 800-53, DISA STIGs).

20. Experience with security tools and technologies (e.g., ACAS, firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM)

21. Knowledge of software-defined networking (SDN) and network virtualization concepts.
