OVERVIEW
Caribou Thunder is seeking an experienced and highly motivated IT Storage Virtualization Design Engineer to join our team. An IT Storage Virtualization Design Engineer is a specialized role focused on designing, implementing, and optimizing virtualized storage solutions within an organization's IT infrastructure. This position requires a blend of technical expertise in storage systems, virtualization technologies, and design principles to create scalable, efficient, and secure storage environments that meet organizational needs.
REQUIREMENTS
The IT Storage/Virtualization Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing storage infrastructure for critical IT systems. This role requires a deep understanding of storage technologies, architectures, and best practices, as well as a strong commitment to security and compliance in a non-cloud environment.
1. Develop and implement storage architectures that meet the performance, capacity, and security requirements.
2. Forecast future storage needs and optimize storage utilization to ensure efficient resource allocation.
3. Monitor and optimize storage performance to ensure high availability and responsiveness.
4. Implement robust security measures and ensure compliance with DoD security regulations and standards.
5. Integrate storage systems with other IT components, such as servers, networks, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V).
6. Develop and implement disaster recovery and data protection strategies to safeguard against data loss or corruption.
7. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices to enhance storage efficiency and reliability.
8. Perform storage performance tuning and optimization to maximize system efficiency.
9. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for storage systems, processes, and architectures.
10. Manage relationships with storage vendors and evaluate new storage solutions for potential implementation.
11. Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams (networking, security, applications) to design holistic solutions.
12. Stay current with the latest storage technologies and industry trends, continuously updating skills and knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Must have CompTIA Security+ with Continuing Education (CE) or equivalent certification under DoD 8570.01-M
2. Strong understanding of storage technologies, architectures, and protocols (e.g., SAN, NAS, DAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel).
3. Hands-on experience with major storage platforms (e.g., EMC, NetApp, IBM, HPE).
4. Proficiency in storage automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
5. Experience with VMware vSphere and related virtualization technologies
6. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
7. Strong project management skills, particularly for storage migration or upgrading projects.
8. Relevant storage certifications (e.g., VCP-Storage, EMC Proven Professional)
9. Experience with other virtualization platforms (e.g., Hyper-V, KVM) in addition to VMware.
10. Familiarity with emerging storage technologies such as NVMe, software-defined storage, or hyper-converged infrastructure.
11. Ability to troubleshoot complex storage issues and identify root causes.
12. Experience with data protection strategies and backup solutions.
13. Expertise in storage capacity planning and forecasting.
14. Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
16. In-depth knowledge of DoD-specific storage requirements and regulations.
