OVERVIEW
Caribou Thunder is seeking a Computer Engineer Journeyman to provide technical expertise in the design, development, integration, testing, and sustainment of cutting-edge space domain awareness, battle management, command and control (BMC3), and combat power systems for Space Systems Command (SSC) and its mission partners. This position supports multiple classified and unclassified space-based programs and requires professionals with a strong background in engineering, software development, systems integration, and cybersecurity in defense environments.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Design, develop, integrate, and sustain software and hardware solutions for complex space and defense systems.
2. Apply engineering and scientific principles to analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize software and firmware functionality in embedded systems, simulation platforms, and advanced computing environments.
3. Support system architecture development, software engineering, and cybersecurity compliance efforts to ensure secure and resilient operations.
4. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including government agencies, industry partners, and Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), to support acquisition, sustainment, and operations of space systems.
5. Assist in software planning, agile/spiral development, and systems engineering practices across the program lifecycle.
6. Provide technical input for acquisition documentation, system requirements, and risk assessments.
7. Conduct modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) to support mission effectiveness evaluations and system trade studies.
8. Ensure compliance with DoD security policies and cybersecurity requirements, including risk assessments and vulnerability mitigation.
9. Participate in and contribute to Program Management Reviews (PMRs), Integrated Baseline Reviews, and business and financial management meetings.
10. Provide advisory and assistance services (A&AS) to support classified and unclassified programs related to space domain awareness and combat power.
11. Work Environment:
a. Work may be performed at government-approved locations, contractor facilities, or approved remote/telework locations.
b. Some travel may be required to support program requirements, including classified briefings and on-site support at contractor or government facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
2. 3-10 years of experience in computer engineering, embedded systems, software development, cybersecurity, or related fields.
3. Active Secret security clearance (TS/SCI preferred or ability to obtain).
4. Experience with embedded systems, real-time operating systems (RTOS), and/or software-defined systems.
5. Strong knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Java, or MATLAB.
6. Understanding of system integration, software engineering methodologies, and cybersecurity principles.
7. Ability to work in highly classified environments and adapt to fluctuating guidance, standards, and policies.
8. Strong communication skills and ability to present technical data effectively to leadership and stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
10. Master’s degree in a relevant field.
11. Experience with DoD acquisition processes, risk management framework (RMF), and cybersecurity frameworks.
12. Familiarity with space systems, satellite communications, ground systems, and space-based sensors.
13. Hands-on experience with simulation systems, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) testing, and digital engineering.
14. Knowledge of AI/ML applications in defense systems and mission data analysis.
