About the role

Casa Esperanza, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and reliable Patient Transport Driver/Recovery Specialist to provide support with client transportation and recovery services. This dual-role position is vital to ensuring clients receive safe and timely transportation to treatment programs, residential placements, court appointments, healthcare facilities, and other essential destinations. The ideal candidate will also assist with recovery support duties within the program, contributing to a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment.


What you'll do


Client Transportation/Vehicle Maintenance

  • Safely transport clients to and from appointments, placements, and other designated locations.
  • Utilize GPS and route planning tools to ensure timely arrivals.
  • Maintain communication with program staff via agency-issued cell phone (hands-free while driving).
  • Assist clients with mobility needs, including those using wheelchairs or walkers.
  • Document any client interactions, concerns, or incidents that occur during transportation in Casa’s Evolv EHR system.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and report any issues.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, fueled, and in safe operating condition.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs.

 

Recovery Support & Facility Oversight

  • Monitor and document client medication administration per program protocols.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs and complete safety checklists.
  • Support intake and discharge procedures, including property searches, toxicology screenings, and proper documentation.
  • Collect or provide patient vital signs as assigned, ensuring accurate documentation and communication with the medical team, clinical team, and management team.
  • Escort clients during scheduled fresh air breaks.
  • Maintain accurate logs of client interactions, concerns, and incidents.
  • Collaborate with all departments within the program and the entire agency as needed to address client needs.

Inventory Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly supply runs to Restaurant Depot and Market Basket to purchase snacks and other items for patient meals.
  • Conduct weekly trips to Casa Esperanza in Roxbury to pick up milk for patient use.
  • Organize and maintain supplies in designated storage areas, including cabinets, ensuring cleanliness and accessibility.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all supplies, ensuring stock levels are sufficient and replenished as needed.
  • Collaborate with program management to track usage, manage inventory systems, and support overall program logistics.


Administrative Duties

  • Maintain detailed records of trips, mileage, and transported items in assigned binders.
  • Maintain detailed records of all gas and inventory purchase receipts in assigned logs.
  • Pick up prescribed medications from the pharmacy for patient use following proper handling procedures.
  • Pick up donations from partner organizations as requested to support program needs.

General Responsibilities

  • Attend mandatory weekly RS meetings, supervision meetings, and agency-wide meetings.
  • Ensure timely completion of all program- and agency-assigned trainings.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the patient belongings in the storage room to ensure a safe and respectful environment.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Remain on-site until shift coverage is confirmed.
  • When no client transportation or errands are scheduled, provide support to the Recovery Specialist team with floor-based tasks as assigned.
  • Assist with additional errands, deliveries, or support tasks as directed by program management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required
  • License: Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional driving or transport experience preferred; experience in healthcare or human services is a plus
  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
  • Language Skills: Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Technology: Proficiency with smartphones for GPS, communication, and email

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm. However, due to factors such as traffic, distance of client transportation, or unforeseen circumstances, end times may occasionally extend beyond 4:00pm. Flexibility is expected to ensure completion of assigned duties. Please note that while the standard schedule is 8:00am to 4:00pm, there may be rare instances where changes are made by management due to emergencies or operational needs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
