Job Purpose

The Senior Manager of Network Operations provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for advanced networking and cloud-based services within a Managed Services framework. This role ensures the reliability, scalability, and security of modern network architectures—including SD-WAN, SASE, and Network-as-a-Service (NaaS)—while integrating cloud infrastructure across public, private, and hybrid environments.

This is a management-focused position, not a hands-on technical role. The emphasis is on leading teams, managing tasks, handling 24/7 escalations, allocating resources appropriately for projects and incidents, ensuring goals and metrics are met, maintaining SLA compliance, and producing reports and dashboards for senior leadership.

Essential Functions

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Define and execute operational strategies for managed networking services (SD-WAN, SASE, NaaS, and traditional enterprise networking).
  • Align network operations with business objectives, customer needs, and emerging technology trends.

2. Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily network operations, including performance monitoring, incident response, and capacity planning.
  • Ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance through proactive management and continuous improvement.

3. Automation & Innovation

  • Promote automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), scripting (e.g., Python), and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Encourage DevOps practices and implement CI/CD pipelines to improve agility and service delivery.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with Solutions Architecture, Cloud Operations, Cybersecurity, and Product teams to deliver integrated solutions and resolve complex challenges.
  • Support initiatives such as service onboarding, migrations, and customer escalations.

5. Vendor & Technology Management

  • Evaluate, select, and manage vendors and technology partners to support network and cloud services.

6. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of network engineers and operations specialists.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Maintain comprehensive network documentation including diagrams, standards, configurations, and change management plans.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives.

7. Project & Financial Management

  • Lead network-related projects including upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments.
  • Contribute to budget planning and cost management for network infrastructure and operations.

8. Continuous Learning & Industry Awareness

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Apply new knowledge to enhance service capabilities and maintain a competitive edge.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • MBA or Master’s degree preferred.

Certifications

  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, ITIL, or equivalent are preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Network Engineering or a related field.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deep understanding of network infrastructure, including routing/switching platforms, firewalls, load balancers, virtual networks, and wireless technologies.
  • Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, OSI model, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS).
  • Expertise in network security (firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, security protocols).
  • Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with network automation tools and scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform).
  • Skilled in performance monitoring and troubleshooting using tools like SolarWinds or Nagios.
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Strategic planning and execution aligned with business goals.
  • Project and vendor management experience.
  • Budgeting and financial oversight.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.
