The Role

The Commissioning Associate is an entry-level role that builds upon foundational commissioning knowledge while introducing more independent troubleshooting, testing, and reporting responsibilities. This role provides technical support in the inspection, validation, and functional testing of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.

The Commissioning Associate will develop a deeper understanding of commissioning procedures, engage with vendors and project teams, will rely on instructions and take ownership of specific testing tasks under immediate supervision. They are expected to demonstrate increasing autonomy, problem-solving skills, and initiative in executing commissioning tasks.

The Commissioning Associate will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.

This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives


Key Responsibilities

Testing & Field Work (50%)

  • Perform on-site inspections, validation, and functional testing of systems
  • Participate in factory witness testing and observe equipment startup
  • Use testing equipment to verify system performance
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and control system components

Planning & Procedures (20%)

  • Assist in developing commissioning plans
  • Prepare pre-functional checklists
  • Support creation of functional performance test scripts

Design & Document Review (15%)

  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and system sequences
  • Support commissioning-focused design reviews

Reporting & Documentation (15%)

  • Prepare progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Contribute to final commissioning reports
  • Track time and project activities using company tools

Qualifications

Education / Experience (one of the following):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or related field
    OR
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with installation, testing, or troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, or control systems

Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and remotely with strong communication skills
  • Problem-solving mindset with ability to follow established procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to learn and use AI/tools to improve efficiency
  • Ability to meet safety requirements and obtain required certifications

Certifications

  • Ability to obtain NFPA 70E and OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certifications

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in varied environments (office, construction sites, extreme temperatures)
  • Frequent movement, including walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and working in confined spaces
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs


Travel Requirements

  • Approximately ~75% travel expected.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license. 
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
  • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.

Salary:

  • The salary range for this role is $65,000-$85,000 paid annually
