Role Overview:

The Electrical Commissioning Specialist leads and supports the planning, scheduling, and execution of full life cycle commissioning for critical facilities. This role participates in MEP design reviews and performs functional testing of complex electrical systems.


The specialist collaborates with engineers, contractors, vendors, and client teams to test, validate, and operationalize new and existing electrical systems, including those in mission-critical environments. They work independently with limited supervision, executing commissioning activities and supporting project leadership on complex assignments, while aligning with organizational goals, values, and departmental objectives.

Essential Functions:

Perform On-Site Commissioning Activities and Project Support (50%)

  • Conduct on-site inspections, validation, functional testing, troubleshooting, and vendor/contractor direction.
  • Participate in factory witness testing and startup activities using appropriate technical equipment.
  • Support effective project delivery by managing timelines, identifying risks, and helping develop mitigation strategies.
  • Assist with team onboarding, mobilization, and ongoing project updates.

Develop Testing Plans and Procedures for Complex Projects (20%) 

  • Oversee all pre-construction activities, including project initiation, kickoff meetings, RFIs, submittals, and resource/material forecasting.
  • Develop and manage project schedules; lead and coordinate project meetings and staffing needs.
  • Execute and/or oversee QA/QC, pre-functional and functional testing, start-up, cutover, and project closeout.
  • Onboard project teams, prepare progress reports, and lead the creation of final commissioning reports for clients.

Develop Testing Plans & Procedures (20%)

  • Create commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test scripts for complex projects.

Review Design Documents (15%)

  • Review design documents, drawings, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, and sequences of operation.
  • Contribute to commissioning-focused design reviews.

Reporting & Documentation (15%)

  • Support project communication and reporting, including progress updates for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with final commissioning reports and manage personal hours using company tools.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction or related discipline or two years’ experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure. 
  • Minimum five years’ additional experience with installation, hands-on testing, validation and troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and controls system principles, with the ability to analyze and prepare technical documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and highly organized, with strong attention to detail and effective file and task management.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written forms, including technical and non-technical information, and serve as a primary client contact.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in remote and field environments through strong communication, self-motivation, and resourcefulness.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple tasks, meeting tight deadlines, and planning or delegating work as needed.
  • Commitment to safety, including adherence to company and site requirements and ability to obtain NFPA70E and/or OSHA certifications.
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and support operational innovation.

This role requires frequent handling of small parts and tools, periods of stationary work, and movement through office, critical facility, and outdoor environments—including confined spaces and varying temperatures. The employee will regularly climb stairs and ladders and may occasionally need to position themselves under or over equipment or move items up to 50 pounds.

Travel/Relocation Requirements:

  • Up to 75%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states.
  • Must be located near a major airport. 
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
  • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
  • Potential relocation opportunities may exist per project needs.
  • International travel may be required based on individual skill, training and project needs.

The pay range for this role is:

110,000 - 144,000 USD per year (Remote (United States))
