Cental is seeking a skilled and motivated Spray Painter to join our Production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing steel components and products to the highest quality standards, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer and project specifications.


This role is ideal for an individual with experience in industrial spray painting who takes pride in delivering high-quality finishes and maintaining a safe and organised working environment.


Key Responsibilities

Surface Preparation

  • Prepare steel components and fabricated assemblies for painting.
  • Clean, sand, mask, and prime surfaces as required.
  • Inspect surfaces to ensure they meet quality standards before painting.
  • Ensure all preparation work is completed in accordance with specifications and work instructions.

Spray Painting

  • Apply primers, paints, and protective coatings using airless and conventional spray equipment.
  • Mix paints and coatings in accordance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Monitor coating thickness and finish quality throughout the painting process.
  • Ensure all painted products meet customer and company quality standards.
  • Carry out touch-up and rework activities where required.

Quality Control

  • Inspect completed work for defects, coverage, finish quality, and compliance with specifications.
  • Report any quality concerns to supervisors promptly.
  • Complete quality and production records accurately.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives within the paint department.

Equipment & Housekeeping

  • Operate and maintain spray-painting equipment safely and effectively.
  • Carry out routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work areas.
  • Ensure paint stocks, materials, and consumables are used efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.

Health & Safety

  • Follow all Health & Safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Correctly use required PPE and respiratory protection equipment.
  • Handle paints, solvents, and chemicals in accordance with COSHH/SDS requirements.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and equipment defects immediately.
  • Contribute to a positive safety culture throughout the facility.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in industrial spray painting, manufacturing, or a similar environment.
  • Knowledge of paint preparation and application techniques.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, motivated, and flexible approach to work.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience painting structural steel, modular units, or fabricated metal products.
  • Knowledge of protective coating systems and corrosion protection requirements.
  • Forklift, MEWP, or overhead crane experience.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Relevant painting or coating qualifications/certifications.
