Job Summary
The Policy Associate will join ClearPath’s policy team, contributing to the development of organizational positions and recommendations across a portfolio focused on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and chemicals manufacturing policy. This role will support ClearPath’s efforts to advance federal policies that scale innovative low-carbon industrial products and carbon technologies.
The portfolio includes policies to advance various carbon removal solutions, drive innovation in low-carbon chemicals, support permitting and regulatory improvements, and foster private-sector deployment. This team member will track legislation, conduct policy analysis, support stakeholder engagement, and help communicate ClearPath’s recommendations to policymakers and industry partners.
This position reports directly to ClearPath’s Advanced Manufacturing and Carbon Innovation Program Director.
Job Description
Research & Analysis:
- Draft high-level, quick, and in-depth analysis of research, policy and industry trends;
- Produce concise research insights and written products pertaining to legislative, regulatory and innovation activities across the federal government;
- Develop subject matter expertise through networking and research;
- Support rapid response initiatives when questions arise on Capitol Hill; and
- Support the development of educational materials and events for Capitol Hill.
Strategic Thinking & Execution:
- Work alongside the team to follow and grow existing industrial decarbonization strategy;
- Demonstrate superb critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including big-picture concepts and granular complexities;
- Support the identification of policy gaps that can be leveraged for growth; and
- Collaborate with the Government Affairs teams to develop strategies for advocacy that support existing ClearPath goals.
Communications, Relationship Building & Influencing:
- Communicate complex ideas clearly, simply and convincingly, internally and externally to both technical and non-technical audiences;
- Publish “thought leadership” (i.e. blogs, white papers);
- Attract and cultivate collaborative relationships with key stakeholders by representing ClearParth in a credible manner and with ease; and
- Support External Affairs initiatives for educational events and staff briefings for federal policymakers.

Qualifications
- BS, MS, and/or PhD with a science or applied science degree (engineering, geology, environmental science, etc.) or a related field (environmental or energy policy, etc.)
- 3 - 5 years of experience in a highly related field - clean energy industry, economics, finance, and/or policy experience
- Excellent analytical and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Comfort with technology and ability to quickly learn new systems
- A professional and personal commitment to ClearPath's mission and values
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in carbon dioxide removal, chemicals, or heavy industry and/or policy (research, energy project development, government affairs, regulatory analysis, etc.)
- Familiarity with stakeholders in the manufacturing industry, carbon dioxide removal, chemicals, or carbon utilization field, e.g. technology developers, funding agencies, etc.
