Closer to Home Community Services (CTH) is a non-profit organization located in Alberta since 1995. CTH provides a wide range of services designed to meet the unique needs of children, youth and families.

About the Position: 


The Youth Facilitator works as part of Closer to Home Family Resource Network (FRN) Spoke in collaboration with Airdrie Community Links, to focus on building skills for children and youth aged 7-17 in Airdrie and surrounding areas. Utilizing the principles of the Teaching-Family Model, the Youth Facilitator focuses on supporting youth to learn social emotional skills that increase executive functioning and provide opportunity to strengthen their relationships with parents, other family members, other significant adults, peers and their culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Create engaging, trauma-informed program plans that will increase protective factors,resiliency, social emotional development, and self-esteem in vulnerable youth.
  • Facilitate engaging programs in the community, either alone or in collaboration with other professionals.
  • Documentation.
  • Program recruitment.
  • Collaborate with community partners and participating in meetings.
  • Support other FRN staff with events or projects happening at the FRN, as well as participating in FRN related programs, such as supporting with the Adopt A Family campaign, the FRN open house and more.
  • Work a flexible work week including some evenings or weekends to facilitate programs or attend events.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Diploma in Social Services and/or 1-2 years of youth-based program facilitation experience.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with professionals, program participants, families and community members.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience working with youth and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds. 
  • Must be willing to maintain an awareness of the cultural/spiritual needs of the clients being served, and to incorporate the identified needs into the planning for clients and families.
  • This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for work-related purposes. Class 5 Alberta driver's license, a personal vehicle, and a clean 3-year drivers abstract are required. Employees must also agree to maintain $2 million liability insurance on their personal vehicle, and consent to the possibility of an annual driver's abstract review to meet our insurance provider’s requirements. Mileage will be reimbursed in alignment with the CRA guidelines and CTH policy.
  • Must obtain and maintain a “clear” Police Clearance Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search as well as a CFS Intervention Record Check.
  • First Aid Level C from an Alberta OHS approved agency.
  • Eager to learn and implement the principles and philosophy of Closer to Home and the Teaching-Family Model.
