Position Overview
The Chief Metallurgist is responsible for leading all metallurgical, process development, and plant design and optimization activities for the Company’s Nevada-based mining operations and development projects. This role supports advancement of projects in alignment with publicly listed company expectations, ensuring efficient, cost-effective, and technically sound processing solutions to meet production and development milestones.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead metallurgical strategy and process plant design for exploration, development, and operational activities.
- Oversee metallurgical test work programs, including sample selection, laboratory coordination, and interpretation of results.
- Develop and optimize process flowsheets for gold extraction, including heap leach and/or milling operations.
- Ensure metallurgical accounting, reconciliation, and reporting accuracy.
- Collaborate with geology, mining, and engineering teams to support mine planning and recovery optimization.
- Identify opportunities to improve recovery rates, reduce operating costs, and enhance process efficiency.
- Manage external laboratories, consultants, and vendors, ensuring alignment on scope, budget, timelines, and deliverables.
- Support technical studies (PFS, FS) including preparation of metallurgical sections of technical reports.
- Identify processing risks and develop mitigation strategies to support project timelines and performance.
- Maintain documentation and support audits, due diligence, and technical reporting requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy, metallurgical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
- 15+ years of metallurgical and ore processing experience in mining.
- Experience with gold processing methods, including heap leach and/or milling operations.
- Strong understanding of metallurgical test work, process design, and plant optimization.
- Experience in supporting technical studies (PFS, FS) and working with external labs and consultants.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to senior leadership and works cross-functionally with geology, environmental, engineering, operations, and corporate teams.
