About the role


As a Curriculum Specialist at CodeHS, you’ll help support the development and maintenance of engaging, high-quality computer science curriculum for middle and high school students. You’ll be part of the curriculum team to create, organize, and improve instructional resources for teachers and students while learning the ins and outs of curriculum development in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.


Location:

Full Office - this role is a 5 days a week office role in the CodeHS Chicago Office in River North.

Salary Range: $65k - $75k


What You’ll Do

  • Support the maintenance and improvement of existing computer science curriculum for teachers and students
  • Test curriculum items for quality, clarity, and accuracy
  • Create instructional materials such as examples, exercises, handouts, and student activities
  • Align curriculum to relevant standards and frameworks
  • Provide support for teachers by helping answer curriculum-related questions
  • Contribute ideas to improve the overall teacher and student experience in CodeHS courses
  • Use AI tools to help with curriculum and content creation

Bonus Skills

  • Programming experience in at least one language (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java)
  • Knowledge of computer science education standards (CSTA, state standards)
  • Experience creating instructional content or supporting teachers



Roles & Responsibilities — Curriculum Specialist

Job Responsibilities Include: 

  • Curriculum Creation & Maintenance
    • Assist in updating and improving existing computer science curriculum based on feedback from teachers, students, and internal team members
    • Help build and organize instructional resources such as slides, handouts, activities, autograders, problem guides, and lesson plans
    • Use AI-powered tools to help draft, brainstorm, or restructure content while critically reviewing outputs for accuracy, clarity, and instructional quality
    • Test and review lessons for correctness (e.g., verifying code examples, checking autograders, proofreading instructions)
    • Support the development of new curriculum components under the guidance of Curriculum Developers (e.g., videos, assessments, or course add-ons)
    • Track and document curriculum updates and improvements to ensure materials remain accurate and current
  • Curriculum Planning & Launch Support
    • Contribute to course outlines and curriculum planning by researching relevant standards, best practices, and trends in computer science education
    • Assist with tasks required to prepare courses for public launch, including testing lesson flows, reviewing materials for accuracy, and updating supporting resources
  • Teacher & Customer Support
    • Help answer curriculum-related questions from teachers and schools
    • Support the Customer Success and Sales teams by gathering curriculum details and preparing resources for meetings
    • Document common curriculum questions or issues to improve future teacher support
  • Research & Standards Alignment
    • Research and summarize computer science standards, certifications, and state requirements to inform curriculum updates
    • Assist with aligning courses to state or organizational standards under the direction of Curriculum Developers
    • Track and share updates about CS education initiatives, legislation, or trends as needed
    • Use AI tools to quickly identify and summarize changes in standards, while verifying accuracy before sharing with the team
  • Professional Growth & Team Collaboration
    • Participate in team meetings, curriculum reviews, and internal training sessions to learn about computer science pedagogy and curriculum development
    • Contribute to brainstorming sessions and team-wide initiatives for improving teacher and student experiences
    • Explore new ways to use AI responsibly and effectively to enhance curriculum development processes
    • Take on special projects to expand your skills and support the Curriculum Team’s goals


A Week in the Life of a Curriculum Specialist

In a typical week, a Curriculum Specialist spends most of their time supporting curriculum development projects — reviewing lessons for accuracy, testing activities, using AI tools to generate and refine instructional materials, and aligning content to standards. The rest of the week may include assisting with teacher questions, researching computer science standards, preparing materials for a course launch, and collaborating with the Curriculum Team in planning or review meetings. This role offers a chance to learn how to build curriculum efficiently and responsibly in an AI-enhanced workflow.
