Responsibilities:

  • Help set the direction of the company’s product strategy in the U.S. and Canada, drive growth through innovation and optimization, and ensure our strategy is executed with the right velocity, quality, and cost effectiveness.
  • Drive CMB’s generative AI product and technology vision and strategy, both to improve internal engineering productivity and external customer-facing mobile app features.
  • Manage the Engineering workforce budget as well as its overall operational costs.  Tap your existing network of engineers that can be hired cost-effectively to achieve our longer-term profit margin goals.
  • Travel at least once per quarter to collaborate with the Engineering team in Toronto, potential new engineering hubs, and the CMB executive team.  At least one annual trip to Asia to meet our CMB Worldwide partners will be required.
  • Responsible for engineering team effectiveness - creating business impact at a sustainable pace while maintaining quality and team health.
  • Serve as an empathetic people manager and leader of the engineering team, providing mentorship, feedback, and a clear job leveling framework for the team to grow.
  • Maintain the highest standards of security and compliance to keep our user data and infrastructure safe, with documented internal employee policies.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including backend code development and iOS/Android consumer native applications and product features.
  • At least 5 years of engineering people management experience in a software development setting.
  • Experience hiring engineering teams in lower-cost locations outside the U.S. and Canada.  Must have existing network of engineers that can be efficiently and cost-effectively hired to join CMB as necessary.
  • Experience working with AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • Some experience (even if only in a private setting outside of work as a hobby) using Gen AI coding technologies to improve software development productivity.  Must demonstrate significant curiosity in Gen AI technologies and ways it can meaningfully improve internal software development and customer-facing app features.
  • Some experience working at a smaller company (less than 100 employees), or at least willingness to work in a small, lean company with only ~10 engineers and ~30 employees.  CMB is a lean company with an expectation that all leaders get their hands dirty.  At our current scale, we avoid having dedicated program managers and ‘chiefs of staff’.

Nice-to-Haves (not required but huge plus!):

  • Strong technical skills in Python (Django).
  • Experience working on freemium mobile dating app products.
  • Experience in machine learning (ML).
  • Fluency in spoken Mandarin Chinese (to collaborate with our CMB Worldwide partners in Asia).

Location Requirement:  This is a remote position (but employee must be based in either the Pacific, Mountain, or Central Time Zones).  Must be legally able to work in either the U.S., Canada, or Mexico.


Compensation:

  • Base salary:  We offer competitive salaries based on third party benchmarks.
  • Bonus / equity:  We do not offer company equity but offer a bonus plan based on company performance and profitability.
