Animation Designer (Freelance) - Crash Course Native American History Series

Animation Designer (Freelance) - Crash Course Native American History Series

Animation Designers are responsible for creating and animating the custom illustrated assets and graphics required for video projects, from charts, graphs, and diagrams to fully animated, character-driven scenes. They will create storyboards, design illustrated compositions, animate them, and deliver those animations to motion graphic designers to be placed into episodes.  We are hiring a freelance animation designer for our Crash Course's Native American History Series. Crash Course, one of our most renowned channels, invites students, teachers, and lifelong learners to understand subjects they might have had trouble with or are curious to comprehend more.

Why Crash Course Native American History?
Native American history widens and complicates the way history is typically taught in the United States. Some states have pushed to expand Native American history in K-12 curricula. But too often, the story begins in 1492 and ends in the late 1800s. Distorted narratives and stereotypes loom in the wider culture, instilling false ideas of Native people as long-gone relics or monoliths. When we don’t learn Native American history, living people are erased and a warped narrative persists—one that’s missing countless perspectives and thousands of years of context.

As a freelance animation designer, you'll work with motion graphic designers delivering project files, consulting on the animation of their compositions, and making adjustments to projects as needed, so strong organizational skills and clear visual and verbal communication are vital for this position. Ideally, you have a passion for Native American history and culture and want to share excitement over the subject with a broad audience.

About Complexly:

The world is not simple. And that can seem like a burden sometimes. The reality is, the human species will never fully understand itself or its universe, let alone any individual. But instead of seeing that as a failing, we'd like to suggest that the process is as powerful as the outcome. The more we understand, the better we get at being humans, and that is one of the only worthwhile goals out there. We are a group of people who make stuff to help that process along and reflect our own excitement and enthusiasm for understanding and imagining things complexly.

Complexly makes educational videos that help our audiences develop a nuanced and complex view of the world around us. Our projects vary in scope, but the goal is the same: to inspire curiosity in our viewers and help people feel more connected to the world around us. With over 31,000,000 subscribers and 55,000,000 views per month, it is one of the largest global online educational companies.
