Director of Development

In this new role, you will support Complexly’s work by creating strong partnerships with philanthropic and grant making organizations. The role is externally focused on generating revenue through grants, while also collaborating internally to align fundraising and creative goals during the proposal phase.

Grants have grown as a focus area for Complexly and we are looking for someone who can grow this arm of the organization, particularly as we expand our ability to take tax-deductible funds. With support from the Chief Business Officer (CBO), you’ll play a crucial role in developing our strategy, from early outreach to execution. You will be empowered to pursue new philanthropic opportunities and lead proposals of the relationships you manage.

Location: Remote, US-based

Pay: $125,719- $147,905

Candidates must reside in (or be willing to relocate to) one of the following states: (AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, MA, MI, MO, MT, NM, NY, NC, OK, OR, PA, TN, UT, VA, WA)

What you'll do: 

• Independently and proactively grow Complexly’s grant and philanthropic revenue streams, including building direct relationships with funders and major donors. 
• When appropriate, work with project teams to establish an early project vision, budget, and project plan. Communicate and collaborate with creative teams on proposal developments.
• Establish a long term vision for our grants program, including a funder target list, outreach strategies, and fundable project initiatives that align with Complexly’s creative and organizational goals.
• Lead Complexly’s efforts to secure operational grants and capacity building grants. 
• Represent Complexly at fundraising events and professional conferences.
• Lead the development of pitch decks, proposal writing, and grant reporting. Lead grant impact evaluation efforts.
• Establish workflows or regular check-ins with creative teams that ensures we're tracking to fulfill grant requirements.
• Work with project teams and finance to track budget spending on grants. Work with CBO on contract terms.

We want to hear from you if you have:

• You have deep knowledge of the educational or non-profit media philanthropic space, ideally both, and see opportunities to grow Complexly’s reach and impact.
• You’ve secured multiple large grants (500k+) through your previous experience in the development space. You’ve got 7-10 years of experience in the development space and have a network of potential funders in mind.
• You are eager to support a growing organization, develop strong philanthropic relationships, and build a long term vision for Complexly’s grant efforts.
• You have experience working with cross-functional teams to explain and share revenue goals. You collaborate to establish clear project visions, implement early project plans, and problem solve as necessary with minimal oversight.
• You have exceptional organizational skills with great attention to detail.
• You have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
