Design Engineer (Hardware / Mechanical)

About Us

Coram AI is an early-stage, fast-growing startup. Leading U.S. businesses, including Fortune 500 companies, are customers of the Coram AI software platform. We are bringing the latest advances in Generative AI to physical security, a massive industry dominated by incumbents. Coram AI works with any existing IP camera and adds AI to it within minutes. We are enabling customers to deploy thousands of cameras across the U.S.

The team behind Coram AI comprises serial entrepreneurs and technology leaders who have spent more than a decade building self-driving cars at institutions like Stanford University, Oxford University, Zoox, and Lyft.

The Role

As a Design Engineer at Coram AI, you’ll own the mechanical and electromechanical design of our next-generation security and edge-AI systems. You’ll bridge industrial design, manufacturing, and field deployment — building products that integrate compute, power, and connectivity in rugged, real-world environments. You’ll take ideas from concept through production, shaping how our hardware scales globally. What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, development, and validation of electromechanical assemblies balancing performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Own the full product lifecycle — from prototype through EVT/DVT/PVT, vendor handoff, and field deployment.
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Be a proactive self-starter — take initiative, act with urgency, and bring a scrappy, hands-on approach to problem solving in fast-moving environments.
  • Drive execution across multiple workstreams with urgency and accountability.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of experience in electromechanical or hardware product development.
  • Strong CAD proficiency (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or equivalent).
  • Proven DFM/DFA experience and understanding of manufacturing techniques for sheet metal and injection molding.
  • Working knowledge of thermal, vibration, and environmental design considerations.
  • Ability to work effectively on-site in a fast-moving startup environment.

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Chinese proficiency and experience leading vendor engagement or manufacturing with partners in Taiwan and China.
  • Strong hands-on prototyping instincts — you’re quick to translate ideas into physical proofs of concept and iterate fast.
  • Demonstrated bias for action and ownership — you naturally take projects from half-baked idea to working hardware without waiting for direction.
  • Curiosity and personal drive — you actively learn new fabrication methods, materials, and processes to expand your range as an engineer.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation package
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • 401(k) with traditional and Roth options
  • Equity in a rapidly growing company
  • Regular team dinners, off-sites, and social events
  • The latest Apple hardware and the tools you need to do your best work

Compensation
The annual salary range for this role is $135,000 – $170,000, with potential for additional bonuses based on performance.
