What will the Director, Compliance Operations do?

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate multiple, concurrent initiatives across Compliance, Security, Privacy, and Operations, working cross-functionally to define requirements, develop project plans, track milestones, and ensure accountability.
- Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive audit and due diligence program, managing external requests from carriers, regulators, and other third parties. Serve as the primary owner for Compliance and Legal inquiries, including policy development, documentation, and stakeholder walkthroughs.
- In partnership with Operations leadership, build and manage Coterie’s Procurement Program, encompassing vendor intake, cross-functional risk and compliance reviews, contract negotiation support, and vendor onboarding.
- Manage relationships with external counsel, providing oversight and coordination on matters related to new product development, contractual review, and regulatory interpretation.
- Evaluate, select, implement and maintain a Contract Management System to improve contract visibility, lifecycle management, and compliance oversight.
- Collaborate with the VP of Compliance and Operations and the Chief Information Security Officer to establish and maintain a proactive regulatory monitoring program, including identifying authoritative sources, tracking legislative and regulatory developments, assessing impact, and delivering clear, actionable reporting to business and compliance stakeholders.
- Maintain and govern the Compliance policy and standard operating procedure (SOP) repository, ensuring documentation remains current, accessible, and aligned with regulatory expectations and business practices.
- Partner with functional leaders across the organization to enhance and mature enterprise programs, including those related to artificial intelligence governance, change management, and peer review.
- This role includes the potential to lead and manage the Compliance team, depending on business needs and candidate experience
- Support special projects and strategic initiatives that advance organizational objectives and strengthen Coterie’s compliance and operational maturity.
What we are looking for:
- Preferred: Active licensure in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
- Required: 5 years’ Compliance experience within the insurance industry, with a strong understanding of insurance-related laws, regulations and compliance requirements.
Our interview process:
Our hiring process generally consists of 4 phases. The goal is to provide an opportunity for us to learn more about our candidates while allowing them to get to know us as well!
- Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview. This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
- Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to meet with our Hiring Manager for a 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role and expected to be 30 minutes in length.
- Phase 3: Top candidates will be invited to participate in our project and team interview phase. This phase will include an experiential exercise, provided in advance, followed by a one-hour interview with our hiring manager as well as additional 1:1 interviews with other team members. This interview series will take approximately 2 hours in total.
- Phase 4: Final candidates will the receive an invite to meet with a member of our senior leadership team. This interview will be focused on core values and culture and is expected to be 30 minutes in length.

- Annual salary estimated between $115,000-$155,000 based on national data. Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements and possess additional relevant experience, as outlined in the job description, may be considered for a salary above the midpoint of the above range. Salary is based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; degrees or certifications, etc.
