What will the SVP, Technology do?
As our SVP, Technology, we’re looking for you to lead our Engineering and Design teams. Develop and communicate a long-term vision and roadmap for the technology function, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall business objectives across software, testing, infrastructure, and architecture, data science, and design functions. Your goal is to develop scalable, API-driven, software that transforms commercial insurance into a seamless experience for our small business owner customer, and the agents and brokers who serve them.

Operational Excellence Expectations:

  • Engineering: Ensure software development follows best practices in terms of scalability, reliability, and security.
  • Design: Champion user-centered design principles to create intuitive, engaging customer experiences.
    Performance Optimization: Develop KPIs to measure and improve productivity, quality, and efficiency across teams.
  • Technology Scalability: Lead efforts to scale technology infrastructure, ensuring it supports growth and operational needs.


What we are looking for:

  • 15 years of software engineering and technology management experience; with a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing large enterprise level architecture and decision making including Design functions
  • In depth understanding and knowledge of the commercial insurance industry to partner as a proven thought leader  
  • A mastery of constructing secure and scalable API architecture and applications
  • At least 5 year’s experience owning the technical roadmap and decision making
  • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with leaders and executives across a variety of business functions to achieve business objectives.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of reliable, scalable, and high-performing software solutions.
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to work in both agile and waterfall environments
  • Exceptional ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a high-performing engineering organization.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with experience working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate software engineering concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Demonstrated history of hiring, developing, retaining and upgrading technical talent including the management of distributed teams
  • Experience with integrating with partner solutions and acquired technologies
  • Must be a critical thinker, with strong problem-solving skills, project management skills: financial/budget management, scheduling, and resource management
  • A strong solution orientation with a penchant for not only identifying problems but also finding ways of solving them within typical business constraints
  • Ability to professionally handle confidential matters and show an appropriate level of judgment and maturity

What will make you stand out:

  • 5+ years fluency in microsoft-focused architectures (.net core, Azure, etc…)
  • Previous experience with Micro-service informed architecture (i.e. you know exactly how micro a service really needs to be). 
  • Experience Revamp Automation infrastructure across testing and DevOps, while coordinating with a CISO toward a true DevSecOps infrastructure. 
  • Previous Architecture and delivery of a Policy Administration or Agency Management system.
  • A visionary who executes while building continued collaboration among the teams, creating a shared sense of “One Team Coterie”.

Our interview process:

Our hiring process generally consists of 4 phases.

  • Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview. This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
  • Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to participate in our PDP survey and meet with our Chief People Officer for a 2nd interview via Teams video.
  • Phase 3: Selected candidates will then be invited to speak with our CEO for a 3rd interview via Teams video.
  • Phase 4: Final candidates will receive an invite for our final interview series via Teams video. This series will include an experiential exercise project (provided in advance), 1:1 interviews with selected team members.

  • Annual salary estimated between $200,000-$250,000 based on national data. Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements and possess additional relevant experience, as outlined in the job description, may be considered for a salary above the midpoint of the above range. Salary is based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; degrees or certifications, etc.
