What will the Sr Business Analyst do?
Coterie is an “insurtech” startup that harnesses data and API technology to bring speed, simplicity, and service to meet small business’ insurance needs like never before. This requires a heavy investment in our own tech stack with a large influence from insurance domain experts internally.
As a Senior Insurance Business Analyst, you will assist in building technical and business requirements for the manufacturing, distribution, and service of insurance products. As part of this role, you will collaborate with Insurance Product, Growth, Operations, Project Managers and Engineering to ensure features and products are built with integrity, speed, and simplicity. You will also provide technical expertise to the insurance product team, growth, and operations on efficient ways to build products.
- Produce business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for features, bugs, and backlog items into system-specific documentation. This includes tables, workflows, diagrams and use cases.
- Review requirements to determine viability from a technical and business perspective.
- Evaluate existing business processes, identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement, and recommend solutions to streamline operations and enhance productivity.
- Collaborate with developers to determine functionality options, level of effort required for requested requirements.
- Lead system development lifecycles including gathering, documenting and analyzing requirement for complex multiplatform applications.
- Provide day to day support to existing applications and troubleshoot system application performance issues as they arise through our bug intake process.
- Responsible for sprint release notes, documentation, and stakeholder notification.
- Work with analysts on the insurance team and DNA (Data and Analytics) to set up 30, 60, 90, 180-day evaluations to provide business impact reports for feedback and transparency to new releases.
What we are looking for
- You have B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent.
- You have a minimum of 7+ years’ experience Business Analyst roles supporting product owners.
- Able to comprehend, express, and document technical details into user stories.
- Ability to support multi-tiered applications, creating user stories and gathering requirements.
- You’re passionate about creating clear, concise documentation for product and engineering teams.
- Understanding and experience with Agile Scrum and Waterfall methodology.
- Working knowledge of JIRA, API, Postman, Azure
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in Commercial Property & Casualty insurance
What will make you stand out:
- Knowledge of commercial insurance product rating concepts
- Prior history working on insurance core systems and/or microservices architecture.
- Fluency in C# (.net core),JavaScript or other OO language.
- Experience building production C# .NET APIs (preferably .NET Core)
Our interview process:
Our hiring process generally consists of 3 phases. The goal is to provide an opportunity for us to learn more about our candidates while allowing them to get to know us as well!
- Phase 1: Qualified candidates will first meet with a member of our People Operations team for a phone interview. This discussion is a high-level conversation to understand more about your background and interests and for us to share more about Coterie and the position.
- Phase 2: Selected candidates will be invited to participate in our PDP survey and meet with our Hiring Manager for a 2nd interview via Teams video. This interview is designed to be more detail oriented and allows you to learn more about the role
- Phase 3: Top candidates will receive an invite for our final interview series via Teams video. This series will include an experiential exercise project (provided in advance), 1:1 interviews with selected team members and a culture focused interview. The final series is roughly 1.5-3 hours in total but can be scheduled over a few days for flexibility.

- Annual salary estimated between 90,000-120,000 based on national data. Candidates who meet all the minimum requirements and possess additional relevant experience, as outlined in the job description, may be considered for a salary above the midpoint of the above range. Salary is based on internal equity; internal salary ranges; market data/ranges; applicant’s skills; prior relevant experience; degrees or certifications, etc.
