Senior People Operations Business Partner

This is a hybrid role based in NYC (three days per week at our office, 2x per month at our Fulfillment Center in Fairfield, NJ) and will report directly to the Director, Talent Development.

The Role

The Senior People Operations Business Partner is responsible for the seamless administration and management of People Operations services for our distributed team. This role will support the Director, Talent Development to deliver consistent, Compliance, Coaching, Employee Relations, Engagement, and Company Culture support to our growing team of over 250 employees. A key responsibility will be coaching both managers and team members alike to enhance performance and leadership capabilities across the organization. This role will also help improve the efficiency, continuity, and effectiveness of the communications, data management, and HRIS utilization within the company, including implementing AI solutions internally to streamline processes and improve overall performance metrics.

Required Qualifications

  • PEOPLE OPERATIONS (HUMAN RESOURCES) EXPERTISE:
    • Multiple years of experience working with exempt and nonexempt employee populations; understands and begins to apply legal requirements in day-to-day employee management to reduce legal risks.
    • Has either SHRM-CP or PHR (HRCI) certification
    • Shows command of company policies and procedures and provides clarification to team members.
    • Regular collaboration with POBP peer and your manager for guidance on policy application.
    • Manages documentation and coordination of employee relations cases including employment claims and investigations, working collaboratively with manager to develop appropriate responses and ensure timely resolution.
    • Serves as a knowledgeable point of contact for workplace matters and employee rights in the workplace.
  • EMPLOYEE ADVOCATE:
    • Exhibits sound interpersonal judgment + decision-making skills, as well as the natural ability to effectively navigate internal and external customers and team members some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
    • Shows strong problem solving skills + the instinct for understanding the needs of managers + team members
    • Consistently seeks out feedback from team members + stakeholders to inform decision making
  • TOOLS + RESOURCES:
    • Develops a mindset of using data to inform People Ops decisions, including integrating data analysis into HR processes such as performance management and employee development to optimize outcomes and mitigate risks.
    • Strong understanding of workflow logic within HRIS systems. Able to execute advanced HRIS reporting - understands basic Excel functions
    • Regularly builds relationships with colleagues in IT, finance, and other departments to access relevant data sources and collaborate on data-driven projects.
  • CHANGE ADVOCATE:
    • Leads change management initiatives by effectively coaching team members and managers of all levels through transitions, facilitating training sessions, and ensuring clear communication throughout the process.
    • Applies the ADKAR change management framework to support organizational transformations.
    • Helps managers and team members understand the difference between risk and uncertainty, providing guidance on how to make effective decisions during periods of change.
  • EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR:.
    • Interpersonal Communication: Demonstrates a foundational awareness of active listening and empathy, with room to develop consistency in application.
    • Verbal Communication: Articulates ideas clearly and persuasively in most situations.
    • Written Communication: Drafts clear and effective emails and memos for internal use.
    • Presentation Skills/Meeting Facilitation: Contributes to team meetings and presents People Operations ideas.
    • Crisis Communication: Handles difficult conversations with some support.
  • COLLABORATION + FEEDBACK:
    • Establishes strong regular collaboration with Finance, payroll and senior leadership for senior level case management.
    • Recognizes when a critical conversation need to be had and fields support from their manager to kickstart the process.
    • Provides feedback that is specific, actionable, and aimed at helping team members improve their performance or contributions.
    • Actively contributes & encourages all team members to contribute to discussions, projects, and decision-making processes.
    • Ensures that work aligns with the common goals and objectives of the team or organization.
    • Considered to be an effective listening partner by peers and leaders and is highly skilled at integrating points of view from different teams and team members.
  • TRAVEL FLEXIBILITY: Maintains the flexibility and willingness to travel to Crafty locations and other states (~10% travel annually). Monthly visits + shadowing within client spaces in your market, as well 2 monthly visits to Crafty’s New Jersey Fulfillment Center required.

Desired Qualifications

  • PEOPLE TECH STACK: Strong command of software applications + HR tools, especially Rippling, Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, Helpscout, Slack, and Notion

Expected Results:

Goal #1: Maximize the effectiveness of the employee relations vertical by training managers on common issues that could occur within their teams (be a coach to our managers).

  • Key Initiative #1: Build relationships with People Managers and Team Members across all departments to ensure alignment on Company policy + procedures for handling workplace concerns through biweekly touchpoints + regular personnel check-ins with each department.
  • Key Initiative #2: By the end of your first 90 days at Crafty, you will identify what trainings are needed and develop a plan to create trainings that will help to ensure understanding and application of Company policy and People Ops programs and empowering our managers to find a solution and be innovative for their teams.

Goal #2: Ensure the Company reaches 80% total compliance by the end of Q1 2026, as measured by our internal Compliance Checklist.

  • Key Initiative #1: With support of your manager, and using the ADKAR framework, develop a project plan to ensure the goal is met.
  • Key Initiative #2: Project manage at least 8 initiatives per quarter in the Compliance Checklist through partnership with leaders across all departments.

Goal #3: By the end of each quarter, ensure all team members receive clear, consistent performance feedback through quarterly surveys and performance review cycles. Success will be measured by timely follow-up on development needs and improved alignment to Crafty’s performance standards.

  • Key Initiative #1: Launch a quarterly 1–2 question survey in Lattice (Q2 and Q4) to confirm manager alignment on performance feedback and expectations.
  • Key Initiative #2: Partner with managers to provide structured coaching, development plans, and clear documentation to support employee growth and accountability.

The pay band for this position is $110,000 to $140,000 in New York City.
