Sync Licensing Intern

Job Summary


The Sync Licensing Intern will gain hands-on experience in one of the most exciting and fast-evolving areas of the music industry: music supervision and sync licensing. This role is designed as a learning opportunity for those looking to build a foundation in music rights, copyright, and licensing workflows. Interns will be introduced to the basics of sync, including how music is cleared for use in film, TV, video games, and advertising, and will play a key role in organizing and managing catalog metadata to support these efforts.

Through this internship, participants will develop a strong understanding of music rights ownership (master vs. publishing), metadata requirements, and how accurate information plays a critical role in facilitating sync placements. Interns will also observe the day-to-day operations of a busy licensing team and assist with research, pitch prep, and clearance support.


This internship is for credit only and is ideal for students passionate about the intersection of music & media.


Responsibilities

  • Metadata Management: Learn to collect and update key information such as recording and publishing splits, rights holder contact info, IPI and PRO data, and more. This data will be used to populate DISCO and internal databases.
  • Client Outreach: Practice professional communication by reaching out to artists, managers, and other rights holders to confirm and complete essential metadata.
  • Catalog Organization: Support metadata audits and ensure all assets (both new releases and back catalog) are accurately represented and searchable.
  • Rights Research: Develop an understanding of music rights and restrictions by researching ownership and usage limitations.
  • Sync Pitch Support: Assist in creating curated playlists for music supervisors and creative briefs across film, TV, games, and digital content.
  • Clearance & Licensing Support: Gain exposure to the clearance process and help facilitate administrative tasks for active licensing requests.

Qualifications 

  • Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university (internship is for credit only).
  • Based in Los Angeles preferred (hybrid or in-person options may be available).
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Clear and professional communication style, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with DISCO or other music/metadata platforms is a plus.
  • Passion for music and sync licensing is strongly encouraged.


Program Details

  • Start Date: Flexible based on academic calendar 
  • Length: 3–4 months
  • Schedule: 20-25 hours per week, In office 2-3 days per week
  • Compensation: Unpaid, for academic or program credit only
  • Reporting To: Manager of Sync
