Residential Counselor

Job Summary: 

To support individuals in attaining the highest quality of life while maintaining their safety across all settings.  

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

  • None 

 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Implement Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) 
  • Report any significant issues using the on-call hierarchy  
  • Implements and follows individuals’ Behavior Skills Plans 
  • Implements and follows EO509 Dining Guidelines  
  • Participated in and completed Licensing and Certification paperwork which includes but not limited to Daily Planners. Monthly Menus, House Meetings, Budgeting, Medical Appointments, etc.  
  • Follows and Implements individuals’ daily schedules  
  • Enhance an individual’s development by providing job coaching 
  • Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with the individuals  
  • Involving individuals in social and vocational opportunities  
  • Implementing Individual Service Plan (ISP) objectives 
  • Promote a high quality of living for the individuals which includes but not limited to assisting with showers, toileting, brushing teeth, laundry, etc.  
  • Able to support and accompany individuals in the community including but not limited to religious services, hospitals, correctional facilities, courts, support groups, etc.  
  • Record accurate and quality data on each individual throughout the shift using ICentrixs 
  • Provides supervision of the individuals and ensures their safety in the residence and community 
  • Promote a high quality of living that includes routine maintenance/housekeeping which includes but not limited to shoveling, mopping, cleaning appliance, etc.  
  • Provide Transportation; whether in the company vehicle or your personal vehicle, for individuals including following the GPS Guidelines 
  • Perform verbal or physical interventions as needed to ensure safety  
  • Conduct physical restraints as needed. 
  • Must be able to maintain HIPAA, Confidentiality and Cyber Security. 
  • Extended standing, sitting, running and lifting as needed to ensure safety 

 

Required Skills/Abilities:  

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Able to accept constructive criticism as a learning tool 
  • Able to handle intimate and personal issues with tact and discretion  
  • Able to work in a team setting  
  • Able to stay awake and alert while on shift, at all times 
  • Flexibility: May be required to work at different locations and shifts to accommodate business needs by arriving to shift on time, maintaining contracted ratios, working holiday shifts, and weekends 
  • Able to calmly and patiently manage threatening and assaultive situations 
  • Able to act appropriately in the event of an emergency  
  • Basic computer skills (email, databases, internet, etc) copy, scan and fax 

 

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Valid Driver’s License 
  • PABC (physical restraints) 
  • CPR/First Aid 
  • MAP 
  • DDS Licensing and Certification required training  

 

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • 1 year of residential experience 

 

Travel requirements: 

  • Heavy Travel - once or more a week

  • Crime & Justice Institute (CJI): Driving bold, transformative improvements in adult and youth justice systems by working with working with local, state, and national criminal justice organizations to improve public safety and the delivery of justice. The CJI team brings decades of experience developing evidence-based, data-driven policies, managing complex processes with diverse stakeholders, and driving systems-level organizational change. Our energetic staff and network of consultants come from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Family Reentry (FRE): At Family Reentry, we address the often-intertwining problems of behavioral health, domestic violence, reentry, recidivism, and risks to youth by offering evidence-based interventions to provide support and effect positive change. We offer a holistic approach by working to connect clients to basic needs and offering support to create change and increase stronger coping and life skills.
