About the position:

AMOpportunities is looking for a Finance Manager to own the reporting, controls, and financial operations that carry our finance team from startup to a foundation built to scale. This is a hands-on role at the center of our finance function — you will own the numbers that reach our board and lenders, build the day-to-day infrastructure and controls that make those numbers trustworthy, and use AI-enabled processes to run it all faster and more accurately than a traditional finance team would.

You will join at a pivotal moment: following a 2025 acquisition, our first external audit, and the buildout of institutional-grade reporting for investors and lenders. We need someone who can operate with autonomy, raise the bar on how finance runs, and build the systems, controls, and processes that a scaling business depends on.

This role reports directly to the VP Finance and collaborates closely with external auditors, tax advisors, lenders, PE investors, and cross-functional business partners. The role has no direct reports today, with the expectation of building and leading a team as the finance function scales.

Must be local to Chicago and be available to come into the River North office one to two days per week

Essential Functions:

Accounting & Financial Operations (30%)

  • Own the month-end close process end to end, ensuring accurate and timely financial records
  • Own and run core financial operations — accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and bank reconciliations
  • Manage specialized payment runs, including weekly preceptor and physician stipend payments, affiliate and commission payments, and expense reimbursements
  • Maintain cash position visibility and support liquidity and cash flow forecasting
  • Support the acquisition integration of PreceptorLink as we move from Quickbooks to Xero

Reporting & Analysis (30%)

  • Own monthly board reporting, including the financial package, key metrics, and supporting commentary
  • Own external lender reporting across monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles, including covenant compliance calculations and supporting schedules
  • Deliver the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycle end to end — accurate, on time, and decision-ready
  • Own the external audit and the preparation of the year-end financial statements, partnering with auditors from readiness through sign-off
  • Build reporting that scales — repeatable, well-documented, and resilient as the business grows

Controls, Data Integrity & AI-Enabled Processes (30%)

  • Design and maintain sufficient internal controls, including segregation of duties and review and approval workflows
  • Safeguard data integrity, accuracy, and completeness across financial systems and reporting
  • Leverage AI tools (including Claude) and data to streamline processes, drive efficiency, and strengthen controls
  • Build and document the day-to-day finance infrastructure - standard operating procedures, workflows, and systems, that takes AMO from startup finance to a foundation ready to scale
  • Identify manual, error-prone, or slow processes and redesign them for speed and reliability
  • Build the control and data foundation that stands up to audit and investor scrutiny

Finance Business Partnering (10%)

  • Serve as the go-to finance person and first point of contact for operational teams on day-to-day financial operations
  • Develop strong working relationships with operational leaders to embed finance in day-to-day operations
  • Support operational teams on invoicing, host payments, vendor set up, expense reimbursements and process questions, and help resolve issues quickly

Skills/Education/Experience:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Four to seven years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including ownership of month-end close and financial reporting
  • Experience owning or supporting an external audit and preparing year-end financial statements
  • Demonstrated experience preparing reporting for senior stakeholders — board, lenders, investors, or executive leadership
  • Strong grasp of GAAP and financial controls
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups) and ability to handle large datasets
  • Experience with cloud-based accounting systems (Xero, QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar)
  • A "trust but verify" mindset — rigorous, self-directed, and proactive in surfacing risks and proposing solutions
  • Excellent communication skills — proactive, clear, and confident with both finance and non-finance colleagues, and quick to raise issues early
  • Comfort with modern tools and a genuine interest in using AI and automation to work smarter

Strongly Preferred

  • Active CPA (or equivalent qualification)
  • Audit background — Big 4, national, or regional public accounting experience, with the instinct to question, document, and validate
  • Experience in a high-growth, startup, or PE-backed environment

Nice to Have

  • Cash flow forecasting experience
  • Healthcare or multi-entity experience
  • Exposure to M&A accounting and integration
  • Experience with covenant compliance and lender reporting

What You Gain:

  • $110,000 to $120,000 base salary annually, plus eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus
  • Comprehensive Benefits Program: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, Tax Exempt Student Loan Repayment, and Commuter Benefits
  • A mission-driven work environment committed to a spirit of support, growth, and achievement
  • Performance-based career growth opportunities
  • A front-row seat for the exponential growth of a booming education tech company
  • Work/life balance
