About Back on My Feet
Back on My Feet is a national nonprofit that uses the power of running and community to help people experiencing homelessness and addiction transform their lives. Operating across 14 markets, we meet members where they are — before sunrise, on the road, in community — and challenge them to do something hard together. That challenge is where transformation begins. Since our founding, we have believed that when you change how someone sees themselves, you change what they believe is possible. Running is how we start. The rest follows.
Our Strategic Anchors
Everything we do is guided by four anchors. They are not aspirational — they are operational.
We Drive Real Impact — We measure success by transformation, not activity. The Program Manager is the local owner of that standard. Every program decision, every partner conversation, every day-to-day call must be traceable to one question: are we creating transformation that wouldn't happen without us?
Running Is Our Foundation — Running is not a feature of our program. It is the mechanism through which transformation begins. The Program Manager is responsible for ensuring running stays structurally central to local delivery — not as a requirement on paper, but as a living, daily practice that members, volunteers, and staff experience as real.
We Build Local Roots for Lasting Impact — Real transformation happens in communities, not across them. The Program Manager is the face of BoMF in their chapter: embedded, trusted, and accountable. The chapter should feel like BoMF. It should also feel like home.
Our People Are the Movement — Back on My Feet runs on people. The Program Manager is responsible for the humans who make this possible in their chapter: members, alumni, volunteers, and local staff — ensuring they are supported, developed, and connected to something larger than any single chapter.
The Position
The Program Manager (PM) is responsible for overall local program operations, ensuring a sustainable, effective, and efficient program that achieves Back on My Feet's primary objective of helping members obtain and sustain employment, housing, and work toward stability. The PM manages and engages volunteers to support members along their journey toward self-sufficiency, and is responsible for developing and maintaining key relationships critical to program implementation — facility relationships, corporate partnerships, and community partnerships. The PM grows impact and adds value for members, alumni, volunteers, and donors through principled entrepreneurship, innovation, and informed experimentation within the overall organizational vision.
Reporting Structure
In a market where the PM is the sole staff member, the Program Manager reports to the Territory Director for all program delivery, member outcomes, volunteer engagement, and chapter operations. Where a Program Specialist is assigned to the chapter, the Program Manager directly supervises that role.
Key Responsibilities
Impact and Growth
- Ensure robust and impactful implementation of the BoMF program, aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and Strategic Anchors.
- Execute on growth strategy to grow the BoMF program in the assigned chapter and surrounding areas through new facility partners, deeper impact with current partners, and effective volunteer support and engagement.
Volunteer Engagement and Management
- Own the implementation and oversight of robust volunteer programs and services — individual and corporate — to drive sustainable growth and exceed engagement and employment targets.
- Recruit, train, manage, and retain volunteers to execute local program initiatives and exceed goals.
- Collaborate with centralized staff to ensure volunteers receive appropriate orientation and onboarding and understand and adhere to BoMF policies and procedures.
- Identify and fill ongoing volunteer needs, including recruitment and community awareness.
- Ensure volunteers have a shared understanding of the organization's vision and goals, and their opportunity to create impact.
Program Implementation
- Partnerships: build and maintain effective relationships with facility partners, referral partners (training, education, workforce development, and other member resources), employment partners, and BoMF corporate partners as appropriate.
- Members: ensure consistent, ongoing member recruitment and onboarding activities at referral partner facilities to maintain and grow the member pipeline to meet and exceed goals.
- Workforce Development: successfully execute BoMF's Next Steps program — financial literacy and employment preparation workshops, coordination of employment services, direct member support, and volunteer assistance with job searching, interview preparation, employment referrals, housing navigation, and financial aid.

What We're Looking For
- You own your chapter's outcomes. You don't wait for direction on the day-to-day — you see what members and volunteers need and you move.
- You let the Strategic Anchors guide everything you do. You build toward them and make decisions through them.
- You believe in the transformative power of running — not as a feature of the program, but as the mechanism through which lives change.
- You build genuine relationships with facility partners, corporate partners, and community organizations, and you know how to turn a relationship into deeper impact.
- You develop people. You know how to set your Program Specialist up to succeed, and you hold them to a high, warm standard.
- You bring challenges forward. You are transparent with your Territory Director and don't manage sideways — you solve.
- You're comfortable adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment, from a 5am Circle Up to an afternoon employer partnership meeting.
The Standard
The expectation for this role is clear: build a sustainable, effective program in your chapter that helps members obtain and sustain employment and housing, and develop the volunteers and staff who make that possible. Within 90 days, the Program Manager should demonstrate:
