HR Intern - People Business Partners

About Us

Chess.com is one of the largest gaming sites in the world and the #1 platform for playing, learning, and enjoying chess.

We are a team of 600+ fully remote people in 60+ countries working hard to serve the global chess community. We are here to support 200M+ chess players worldwide with the best possible product, content, and tools to serve the community!

We are a tech company. A gaming company. A content company. And we do it all with passion and commitment to the game. Above all we prize our mission-driven, flat, life-celebrating, no-corporate culture, and we look forward to meeting you and learning more about what you can bring to the team.

What you'd be doing

Chess.com's People Business Partner team is the connective tissue between our people and the company, and we're looking for an intern to help us do that work with quality and in alignment with our culture. You'd be joining a small, dynamic team supporting some of our highest-impact orgs (with particular focus around our tech teams, where a lot of the action is), and getting real exposure to what PBP work actually looks like day-to-day.

You'd be doing real work: helping the team stay organized and on top of action items, supporting employee touchpoints across the business, digging into data, drafting communications, and contributing to projects that genuinely improve the team member experience.

We're looking at a 12-month internship and we'd love for the right person to potentially grow into a full-time role at the end, so we’ll be invested in your learning and development from day one.

What you'll work on

  • Supporting the PBP team across the full HR lifecycle — onboarding, performance cycles, employee check-ins, and more
  • Helping keep our org units well-supported (with a particular focus on tech, as it's our biggest client group)
  • Maintaining clean data in our HR systems and pulling reports that help the team make good decisions
  • Helping document and track HR processes, coaching conversations, and role changes
  • Contributing to team projects — building resources, improving templates, researching policy questions

What we're looking for

  • You're pursuing or recently completed a degree in HR, Business, Psychology, Communications, or something adjacent
  • You're organized, thorough, and good at keeping a lot of moving pieces straight
  • You write clearly and professionally
  • You know how to handle extremely sensitive information with an impeccable level of discretion
  • You're curious about HR and people operations as a career — not just looking for a resume line
  • Bonus points if you've used Rippling before, have prior HR experience, or have worked in a distributed team.

About the Opportunity

  • This is a 12-month internship
  • We are 100% remote
  • This role is open to applicants who can work the USA, Canada, UK or Spain
  • Americas hours overlap required
