About the role

Position:  Classroom Aide

Reports to: Site/Area Manager

Department: Children Family & Services

Pay Rate:  $24 per Hour

Position Type: Part time & Full Time Hourly Temporary (expected end date: 6/30/2027)
Notes: We are currently hiring for both Part time and Full time Classroom Aides. Part time positions will be limited to 14-19 hours a week. Locations are dependent on Availability, Application will allow you to select preferred locations

Classroom Aide supports the daily care, active supervision, safety, and engagement of children in Community Action Marin’s center-based programs. Under the supervision of the Site/Area Manager and the direction of classroom teaching staff, the Classroom Aide assists with classroom routines, learning activities, transitions, meals, health and sanitation practices, and the maintenance of a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment.

 

This is an entry-level classroom support position designed for individuals who are dependable, caring, and committed to supporting children and families. The Classroom Aide works collaboratively with teaching staff to promote positive child interactions, maintain appropriate supervision, and support the effective daily operation of the classroom. No early childhood education units are required for this position.

 

The Classroom Aide may be scheduled on a part-time or full-time basis based on program and staffing needs.

Essential Duties
Active Supervision & Child Safety

  • Always maintain active supervision of children in accordance with Community Care Licensing requirements, CAM policies, and program procedures.
  • Support the safety and well-being of children during classroom activities, meals, transitions, outdoor play, and other program activities.
  • Maintain awareness of the location and activities of assigned children and follow established supervision and child accountability procedures.
  • Promptly identify and report safety concerns, injuries, incidents, unusual behaviors, or environmental hazards to the appropriate classroom teacher and/or Site/Area Manager.
  • Assist with required incident documentation and follow established reporting procedures as directed.
  • Follow health, sanitation, hygiene, and infection-prevention procedures, including handwashing and classroom cleaning practices.
  • Fulfill responsibilities as a Mandated Reporter in accordance with California law and CAM policies and procedures.

 

Classroom & Program Support

  • Assist classroom teaching staff with the implementation of daily routines, learning experiences, activities, and transitions.
  • Provide individual and small-group support to children during structured and unstructured activities.
  • Prepare, organize, distribute, and clean classroom materials, supplies, learning areas, and activity spaces.
  • Assist children with age-appropriate daily routines and self-help skills as directed by teaching staff.
  • Support classroom organization and help maintain an environment that is safe, orderly, engaging, and developmentally appropriate.
  • Provide classroom and break coverage as assigned while maintaining required supervision and safety standards.
  • Assist with basic classroom and program documentation, including attendance, sign-in/sign-out records, and other records as assigned.

 

Positive Child Engagement

  • Develop warm, respectful, and consistent relationships with children that support their social-emotional development and sense of belonging.
  • Engage children in positive, age-appropriate interactions and activities throughout the program day.
  • Encourage children to communicate their needs and emotions appropriately and reinforce positive behavior and classroom expectations.
  • Use positive guidance techniques consistent with CAM policies and the direction of classroom teaching staff.
  • Promote an inclusive classroom environment that respects individual differences, cultures, abilities, identities, and family backgrounds.
  • Support the participation and inclusion of children with varying abilities and identified needs in accordance with established classroom plans and staff guidance.

 

Family Relationships & Communication

  • Greet and interact with children and families in a welcoming, professional, and respectful manner.
  • Support positive relationships with families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Direct questions, concerns, or information requiring follow-up to the appropriate classroom teacher or Site/Area Manager.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, employees, and program information.

 

Meal Service & CACFP Support

  • Assist with meal and snack preparation, service, clean-up, and food-safety routines in accordance with CAM procedures and applicable CACFP requirements.
  • Accurately document meal counts at the point of service, as assigned, and submit required records in accordance with program procedures.
  • Support CACFP-related recordkeeping, meal service, sanitation, and compliance activities within the scope of the position.
  • Model and reinforce appropriate mealtime routines and practices with children.

 

Team Collaboration & Professionalism

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, classroom staff, managers, substitutes, volunteers, and other program staff to support effective classroom operations.
  • Follow the direction of classroom teaching staff and the Site/Area Manager and seek clarification when responsibilities or procedures are unclear.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for scheduled shifts and maintain reliable and consistent attendance.
  • Communicate promptly with the appropriate manager regarding absences, delays, or other circumstances affecting scheduled work.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, professional development, and other program activities.
  • Follow CAM policies and procedures, licensing requirements, confidentiality standards, health and safety requirements, and established program practices.

Demonstrate professional judgment, respectful communication, teamwork, and appropriate workplace conduct.

Qualifications

Education:

·       High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required in accordance with Community Action Marin employment standards.

·       Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development coursework or units are preferred but not required.

·       Candidates currently pursuing coursework or a degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field are encouraged to apply.

Experience:

·       Prior experience working with children in a school, childcare, recreation, camp, after-school, community-based, or similar setting is preferred but not required.

·       Experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds is preferred.

Language

·       Bilingual in English and Spanish, both written and verbal, preferred.

·       Ability to follow directions, established procedures, classroom routines, and safety requirements.

·       Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain consistent attendance.

·       Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with children, families, coworkers, and managers.

·       Ability to exercise appropriate judgment and seek assistance when situations require support beyond the scope of the position.

·       Ability to adapt to changing classroom needs, schedules, activities, and assignments.

·       Deep understanding – and ability to articulate – the role equity, inclusion, and diversity plays in our work.

 

Certifications

·       Completion of required employment health screening/physical.

·       Tuberculosis clearance and other health documentation as required by applicable regulations and CAM policy.

·       Criminal record clearance as required by Community Care Licensing and applicable law.

·       Completion and maintenance of required health, safety, mandated reporter, and other program-specific training within established timelines.

·       Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification, if required for the assignment, must be obtained and maintained within CAM-established timelines.

 

Software:

·       Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint, as well as internet-based applications.

·       Ability to learn and use agency-specific software and technology required for the position.
