About the role
As a mechanic, you will perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of equipment including gas and diesel engines, large construction equipment, small machinery, fleet vehicles, and semi-trucks. This position requires a broad mechanical knowledge base, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
What you'll do
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs on:
- Gas and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment
- Heavy construction equipment (e.g. excavators, skid steers, trenchers, backhoes)
- Small machinery and tools (e.g. compactors, generators, pumps)
- Light and heavy duty fleet vehicles (pickup trucks, vans, utility vehicles)
- Commercial and Semi-trucks (DOT inspections, brake systems, trailers)
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic issues using appropriate diagnostic tools
- Conduct preventative maintenance including oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and inspections per manufacturer’s specifications
- Maintain service records and complete work orders accurately and timely
- Ensure shop safety and cleanliness; follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Order parts, maintain an inventory of supplies and communicate needs to management
- Respond to field service calls and perform mobile repairs as needed
- Assist in maintaining compliance with DOT, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements
- Occasionally operate equipment to verify repairs
- Uphold company policies and safety standards all times
- Uphold the company’s reputation through quality workmanship, reliability and ethical conduct
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of mechanical experience preferred
- Experience working on gas and diesel engines required
- Experience repairing heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, and semi-trucks preferred
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently
- Experience using diagnostic software, tools, and equipment
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and schedules
- Familiarity with DOT inspections and commercial vehicle maintenance preferred
- Ability to read and understand service manuals, repair diagrams, and technical information
- Basic welding and fabrication experience preferred
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time in a fast-paced environment
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and parts and perform physically demanding work
- Willingness to work outdoors and respond to field service calls when needed
- OSHA certification or other industry certifications preferred but not required
