About this role

The QC Test Technician plays a critical role in ensuring ESS Metron's custom electrical equipment meets the highest standards before reaching the customer. As part of the Quality Team, this role is responsible for inspecting and testing finished products, identifying production and assembly defects, and collaborating with the production team to correct errors in real time. From reviewing engineering drawings to conducting final inspections and supporting warranty investigations, the QC Test Technician is essential to delivering world-class power distribution solutions across a wide range of demanding industries. This role is structured across three levels — Technician I, II, and III — allowing individuals to grow their skills and advance their careers as they deepen their expertise in electrical testing and quality management.


What you'll be doing

QC Test Technician I

  • Champion a "Safety First" culture by modeling safe practices and promoting safety awareness across the team.
  • Perform wiring connection inspections to ensure wiring is properly connected and meets arc flash installation standards.
  • Check wiring for continuity and verify proper point-to-point connections per wiring diagrams.
  • Conduct electrical-related inspections and document results for warranty records.
  • Document nonconformances or damage identified during inspections on quality logs and create nonconformance reports in the system.
  • Participate in analysis of nonconformance root causes.
  • Perform ship loose inventory in preparation for shipping products to customers.
  • Assist with preparation for higher-level functional testing and learn the testing process.
  • Work alongside QC Test Technician II to learn the full inspection and documentation process for finished equipment.

QC Test Technician II

  • Champion a "Safety First" culture by modeling safe practices and promoting safety awareness across the team.
  • Prepare equipment for hipot and functional testing following SOPs to ensure no damage occurs during the testing phase.
  • Set up safety exclusion zones prior to testing energized equipment.
  • Perform hipot testing on energized equipment to verify readiness for shipment.
  • Perform functional testing on equipment including PLCs and control modules to ensure they operate per design and specification.
  • Perform voltage testing on equipment and inspect for damage or abnormal wear following testing.
  • Create nonconformance reports and initiate failure analysis.
  • Conduct complete mechanical and electrical inspections of projects and document results per the quality management system.
  • Verify equipment spacing meets code and design requirements.
  • Support QC Test Technician III with warranty analysis using documented testing records from manufacturing.

QC Test Technician III

  • Champion a "Safety First" culture by modeling safe practices and promoting safety awareness across the team.
  • Track production quality critical control point progress and schedule quality checks to minimize production downtime.
  • Review engineering drawings to verify equipment can be built to specification and identify potential design issues prior to production.
  • Work with the Quality Team to resolve deficiencies identified during equipment testing phases.
  • Work with vendors to resolve deficiencies identified during initial quality inspection of received parts.
  • Conduct final inspections and apply UL labels upon successful completion.
  • Conduct final audits of all quality inspection reporting and critical control point verification documentation for projects.
  • Travel to customer sites to participate in investigations of equipment failures and document findings.
  • Receive initial warranty work reports and collect production records to evaluate potential warranty liability from the manufacturing process.

What you'll have

QC Test Technician I

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 2 years of related electrical equipment manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and basic electrical schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.

QC Test Technician II

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some undergraduate coursework in Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • 2 to 4 years of electrical equipment testing experience in a related field.
  • Experience with hipot testing, functional testing, and voltage testing.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, control modules, and quality management documentation systems.

QC Test Technician III

  • Associate's Degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • At least 6 years of electrical equipment testing experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and Quality Management software for documenting quality readings and issues.
  • Ability to upload and retrieve documents from shared drives and storage retention systems.
  • Experience with warranty evaluation, engineering drawing review, and cross-functional team collaboration.

Physical requirements and work environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods in an active manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to regularly lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work onsite in a manufacturing environment with exposure to electrical components and energized equipment.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites required, particularly at the Technician III level.
  • Exposure to moderate-to-high noise levels and varying temperatures.

Safety requirements

  • PPE & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all site safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots).
  • Hazard Awareness: Proactively identify, report, and mitigate potential workplace hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Standards: Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety training.
  • Organization: Keep all work areas clean and free of obstructions to prevent workplace accidents.
