Business Development Analyst, Technology Diligence

Company Description:

FluidAI specializes in developing and deploying data-driven surgical solutions, with an initial focus on general and gastrointestinal surgery. Our technologies integrate medical devices, software, and artificial intelligence into platforms that address real clinical and operational challenges across the continuum of surgical care.

We combine continuous physiological monitoring from our proprietary sensors with comprehensive electronic health record data, creating intelligent systems that enable earlier identification of clinical deterioration and complications. Beyond patient monitoring, our platform extends to patient education and engagement tools, as well as automated documentation and coding modules, supporting care teams and driving operational efficiency.

Our team brings together expertise across clinical practice, research, engineering, data science, manufacturing, and commercialization. We build solutions designed for real-world impact, supported by full in-house capabilities, a strong intellectual property portfolio, and partnerships with leading institutions around the world.

We are an equal opportunity employer and have a diverse team representation across language, ethnicity, gender, and nationality.

  • Learn how healthcare technology is tested, judged, and licensed, working directly alongside the people making the calls.
  • Personal career-focused development and training with access to workshops, coursework, and experienced mentors/consultants.
  • Regular offsite activities. Past events include rafting, cottaging, axe-throwing, sports leagues, and the usual BBQ.

Job Summary

We are looking for a Business Development Analyst to help assess technologies at FluidAI. The healthcare organizations we work with want the best clinical technology available, whether we license it, partner on it, acquire it, or build it ourselves.

You will produce the research, analysis, and testing behind each assessment: what a technology does, what the evidence shows, what it's cleared for, how it performs when we test it, and how it compares. You will use both software and clinical skills, help draft and run test cases, and help turn findings into clear decision documents. You will work closely with the Business Development Manager, Technology Diligence, and grow toward running initial assessments on your own.

Note: This is an office-first role working out of our Kitchener HQ in the Medical Innovation Xchange, with occasional travel.

Job Responsibilities

  • Research technology markets and build competitor landscapes.
  • Gather and summarize evidence: clinical studies, regulatory clearances, published performance data, and company information.
  • Help draft test cases and prepare test data for the technologies being assessed. Run tests and record results clearly.
  • Get hands-on with products under review: set up demos and trials and check how they handle real workflows and data.
  • Help score technologies against structured selection criteria and flag gaps or risks.
  • Build financial models for pricing and licensing under the Manager's guidance.
  • Maintain the assessment pipeline tracker so every opportunity has a clear status, owner, and next step.
  • Prepare decision packs, briefing notes, and assessment materials, and coordinate information requests with technology companies.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 90 days, you own the pipeline tracker, have drafted and run test cases for at least one technology, and have produced landscape reviews for several technology categories. In your first year, you run initial assessments independently and your analysis is the starting point for the team's recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Experience in research, analysis, testing, consulting, business development, or health technology. Co-op terms, internships, and academic projects all count.
  • Good software skills: comfortable running and testing software, working with data, and writing basic scripts or queries (for example Python or SQL).
  • Good clinical knowledge: able to read clinical studies and understand how care is delivered. This could come from clinical, biomedical engineering, or health sciences training or experience.
  • Strong research skills, including finding and summarizing primary sources such as studies, regulatory databases, and company filings.
  • Clear, structured writing and organized follow-through across many parallel threads.

Nice To Have

  • Exposure to software testing or quality assurance, including writing test cases.
  • Exposure to medical devices, clinical AI, or digital health.
  • Familiarity with regulatory databases (for example FDA 510(k) or Health Canada device listings).
  • Coursework or experience in health economics, market sizing, or technology commercialization.
  • A degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, health sciences, or a related field.

How To Apply

Submit your resume and a short example of research, analysis, or testing you produced (coursework counts). Tell us the question, your method, and what you concluded.

We welcome applicants from different backgrounds and career paths. If your experience fits the core work but you do not meet every listed qualification, we encourage you to apply.

Benefits

  • Health and dental coverage, including vision, prescription drugs, paramedical services (such as physiotherapy), and travel and life insurance.
  • Parental leave top-up of 8 to 10 weeks, based on tenure.
  • Unlimited vacation time plus observed holidays, subject to approval and operational needs.
  • An annual productivity budget on top of your laptop and equipment.
  • Team events and an annual company offsite.

Transparency & Hiring Practices

  • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $62,000 CAD.
  • Application Screening: All applications are screened manually. We do not use AI or AI-Augmented Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to screen, assess, reject, or select candidates.
