ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re looking for someone who is willing to get out into the market, meet people, and create new opportunities for Frogslayer.

This is a field-first business development role focused on identifying the right companies, getting in front of the right people, and creating enough interest to start a real conversation.

A meaningful part of your job will be spent out in the field. You will be given a target industry and geography and expected to research the area, identify the companies that fit, call on them, and help fill our pipeline with qualified opportunities.

That means walking into businesses, introducing yourself, explaining Frogslayer, leaving behind relevant materials, identifying the right decision-maker, and creating an opening for a follow-up conversation.

You’ll also use phone and email follow-up to build on those in-person interactions and keep promising conversations moving.

Initially, your job is not to sell an engagement from start to finish. Your job is to create qualified opportunities for the revenue team. Over time, the right person could grow into a much broader sales role.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

1. Develop Target Markets

You’ll help Frogslayer identify and pursue businesses within specific industries and geographic markets.

Initially, we’ll provide significant guidance on where to focus and what a good clients looks like. Fairly quickly, we’ll expect you to become capable of doing much of that work yourself.

You’ll:

  • Research specific industries, cities, and local markets
  • Identify businesses that fit Frogslayer’s target criteria
  • Determine likely decision-makers
  • Own and maintain your own target account and visit lists
  • Plan efficient field activity across a geographic area
  • Learn from what is working and refine where you spend your time

You should be comfortable taking a broad direction like “focus on machine shops in this area” and turning it into an actionable prospecting plan.

2. Get in Front of Business Owners and Leaders

This is the core of the role.

You’ll spend a meaningful amount of your time physically visiting businesses within our target markets.

That may include:

  • Cold outreach to warm up a particular market
  • Driving to businesses throughout Bryan-College Station and surrounding markets
  • Walking into businesses without a scheduled meeting
  • Introducing yourself and Frogslayer
  • Leaving behind one-pagers or other relevant materials
  • Identifying who the right decision-maker is
  • Finding ways to create an introduction or future conversation
  • Learning enough from each interaction to determine the next best step

You do not need to walk in and conduct a full sales conversation.

Early on, success may simply mean finding the right person, making a credible introduction, creating interest, and earning the opportunity for Frogslayer to continue the conversation.

3. Create Qualified Leads

The primary outcome of this role is generating qualified leads and opportunities for Frogslayer.

For this role, a qualified lead generally means:

  • The business fits the type of company we are aiming to serve
  • You have identified and reached the right decision-maker(s)
  • That person has a legitimate interest in having a conversation with Frogslayer

You do not need to diagnose the company’s business problems before handing the opportunity off.

The VP of Revenue will initially handle the discovery call, deeper sales conversations, solution development, proposals, and closing process.

Your job is to consistently create good opportunities for those conversations to happen.

4. Follow Up and Keep Conversations Moving

Field activity is the starting point, but it will not be the only way you work.

You’ll also spend time:

  • Calling people you met in the field
  • Following up by email
  • Checking back in with businesses where the timing was not right
  • Reaching out to decision-makers you identified but did not meet in person
  • Following up on introductions and referrals
  • Inviting prospects into relevant conversations, events, or other opportunities to engage with Frogslayer
  • Keeping track of next steps so promising leads do not get lost

This is a field-first role, but strong follow-up is what turns field activity into actual opportunities.

5. Learn to Represent Frogslayer Well

You do not need to come into this role with a software development background.

You do need to become fluent in what Frogslayer does.

We will help teach you our services, how we work, the kinds of businesses we help, and the types of problems we are equipped to solve.

Over time, we expect you to be able to explain Frogslayer clearly and credibly in plain language.

You should be able to talk about:

  • The types of services Frogslayer offers
  • How we help businesses improve workflows and operations
  • Where automation and AI may create value
  • The kinds of situations where custom software may make sense
  • What makes a business a strong fit for a deeper conversation with Frogslayer

You are not expected to be a technical expert. You are expected to understand our business well enough to represent it confidently and know when there is a reason to keep the conversation going.

EXPECTATIONS

This is a full-time role, and success requires initiative, high output, consistency, persistence, and follow-through

A significant portion of your time will be spent outside the office visiting businesses and developing markets.

Other portions of your week will be spent researching, planning, calling, emailing, following up, and keeping your work organized.

We expect you to:

  • Be comfortable spending a significant amount of time in the field
  • Be willing to walk into businesses cold and start conversations
  • Work independently without requiring constant direction
  • Build a plan for your week and follow through on it
  • Be persistent without being pushy
  • Follow up consistently
  • Keep accurate notes on who you met, what happened, and what needs to happen next
  • Be comfortable hearing “no” and continuing to the next opportunity
  • Learn quickly from what works and what does not
  • Take ownership of your target market rather than waiting to be handed every next step
  • Be dependable and committed to getting the work done

TRAVEL

This role will involve regular local and regional travel to the markets Frogslayer is actively pursuing.

Most travel will likely be within roughly two hours of College Station, though some markets may require longer trips from time to time.

Most travel will be by car and completed as day trips, though occasional overnight travel may make sense depending on the market and schedule.

We expect approximately 50–70% of the role to involve field activity and travel, depending on the week.

A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

This is an entry-level role. You do not need previous software sales experience.

We care more about your mindset, work ethic, communication skills, and willingness to get out and create opportunities.

You are:

  • Comfortable talking to people you have never met
  • Confident enough to walk into a business and introduce yourself
  • Personable and able to build rapport quickly
  • Persistent and not easily discouraged
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently
  • Organized enough to manage a large number of prospects and follow-ups
  • Curious about how businesses operate
  • Able to learn new industries and understand what makes a business a good fit
  • Comfortable talking with owners, presidents, operators, managers, and front-office staff
  • Willing to spend significant time driving and working outside the office
  • Motivated by activity, progress, and creating new opportunities
  • Interested in building a career in business development and sales

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in a customer-facing, sales, service, hospitality, retail, or other relationship-oriented role
  • Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable networking, building referral partnerships, and representing a brand in person
  • Ability to manager time effectively and work independently
  • Comfortable learning Frogslayer’s services and explaining them clearly in plain language
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willing and able to travel regularly throughout regional target markets

Preferred, But Not Required

  • Previous sales, business development, or entrepreneurial experience
  • Experience working toward activity or performance goals
  • Familiarity with technology, software, AI, or automation concepts
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Early success means:

  • You understand Frogslayer’s target markets and can identify companies that fit them
  • You can independently research a geography and build a strong prospect list
  • You consistently get out into the field and make meaningful contact with businesses
  • You are identifying the right decision-makers
  • You follow up reliably after initial interactions
  • You are creating qualified leads that turn into discovery conversations
  • You accurately track what happened and what needs to happen next
  • You are learning which industries, messages, and approaches are producing the best response

Part of building this role will be learning how many visits, conversations, and follow-ups are required to consistently create qualified opportunities.

WHERE THIS ROLE CAN GO

This role is designed as an entry point into business development and sales at Frogslayer.

Initially, your focus will be top-of-funnel market development:

Research → Prospecting → Field Outreach → Follow-Up → Qualified Lead

As you grow, the right person could take on more responsibility across the sales process.

That could eventually include:

Initial Conversations → Discovery → Deeper Sales Conversations → Proposal Development → Deal Ownership

Long term, the right person could potentially become capable of managing the full sales process—from identifying a business to ultimately closing the engagement.

There is no predefined timeline or guaranteed progression. Growth will depend on your performance, judgment, ability to learn, and interest in taking on greater responsibility.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

Frogslayer does some of its best work when we get in front of the right businesses and have the opportunity to understand how they operate.

The challenge is getting those conversations started.

This role is responsible for creating those openings.

You’ll help us identify strong-fit companies, get Frogslayer in front of people we may not otherwise reach, and turn local market activity into real sales opportunities.

This is not a role where you sit behind a computer and wait for leads to come in.

You’ll be expected to go create them.
