Micro Lens Lead Engineer

Avicena is a privately held company developing microLED based ultra-low power high bandwidth interconnects for chip-to-chip communications.  This technology will revolutionize High-Performance (HPC) and Cloud computing, as well as other industries where low power interconnects are critical like camera sensors, autonomous vehicles, and aerospace. Avicena is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California with a development center in Edinburgh, Scotland. About the role:

Owner of micro-lens material development and fabrication process :

  • Work with optical designers to generate micro-lens array design.
  • Work closely with material suppliers to develop advanced lens materials.
  • Work with partners to develop wafer level lens replication process.
  • Design testing plan to ensure results meet product requirements.
  • Specify and oversee material reliability and qualification testing.
  • Oversee transition from prototype to high volume manufacturing.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s, or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Optics, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience with wafer level optics.
  • Deep knowledge of material selection for micro lens applications.
  • Cleanroom process experience.
  • Experience with optical modelling software (Zemax, Lumerical, LightTools etc.)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal/communication skills within the company and with partners, customers, and consultants.
