Hyperlayer Careers

Graduate AI Engineer

About Hyperlayer

Hyperlayer is the intelligent banking platform built for the agentic economy: the financial control layer that sits above banks' existing cores, enabling next-generation Smart Accounts, without ripping anything out. From a single integration, we give financial institutions a secure rules and orchestration engine that lets them design, launch and scale hyper-personalised products in weeks while preserving stability, compliance and control. And there's nothing like us anywhere in the world.

Hyperlayer works with Tier 1 and Tier 2 FIs across the UK, US, EMEA and Hong Kong, with an award-winning UK consumer app (HyperJar) sitting in the group. We're creating the fintech category that every bank in the world needs: programmable, governed, agent-ready accounts. Your job is to make sure our audiences know that.

We’re Growing Our AI Team 🚀

Hyperlayer is on a mission to reinvent how people and businesses move money, and we need a Graduate AI Engineer with big ideas to help us make it happen. This isn’t just about writing code; it’s about building the AI infrastructure for the future of payments.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers across the AI team, learning the ropes on real projects from day one. If you’re eager to learn, love experimenting, and want your first role to actually stretch you, you’ll fit right in.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the AI team in building and shipping features for our platform, learning our tools and codebase as you go
  • Write clean, well-tested code under the guidance of more senior engineers, taking on more ownership as you grow in the role
  • Help collect, clean, and prepare data for AI/ML projects
  • Take part in code reviews, team discussions, and planning sessions - your input is welcome from day one
  • Experiment with AI tools and techniques under supervision, and share what you learn with the team
  • Participate in system level design discussions with your peers
  • Help make sure the AI systems you work on are well tested, reliable, and secure
  • Document your work clearly, so others on the team can build on it
  • Bring fresh ideas and curiosity - we want to hear your perspective, however new you are to the field.

Qualifications

  • A degree (or equivalent, including bootcamps) in Computer Science, Engineering, Maths, or a related field - or an equivalent level of self-taught experience
  • Solid foundations in Python, and enough SQL to be dangerous
  • A basic understanding of machine learning and AI concepts, e.g. from coursework, projects, or self-study
  • Comfort learning new tools quickly - we’ll teach you the specifics, you bring the appetite
  • Some exposure to git, APIs, or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - through university, internships, or personal projects
  • A genuine interest in AI and how it’s applied to real-world problems
  • A data-driven mindset - you like digging into numbers and figuring out what they’re telling you
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to ask questions
  • A collaborative attitude - you’re happy to learn from others and just as happy to pitch in
  • Curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for experimenting, learning, and building things

Bonus Points For

  • Personal projects you’re proud of - a GitHub repo, a Kaggle competition, a hackathon entry, anything you built because you wanted to
  • Contributions to open-source projects, however small
  • Blog posts, tutorials, or write-ups where you’ve shared what you’ve learned
  • Participation in hackathons, competitions, or AI/ML communities
  • Internship or placement experience in software engineering or data/AI
  • Hands-on experimentation with LLMs or generative AI tools, even informally
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms or containerisation (Docker)
  • A portfolio, however small, that shows how you think and what you’re curious about

(You don’t need every skill. If you’re passionate about building the future with AI, we want to hear from you.)
