Schedule: Full-time

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000
Position Reports To: Vice President of Communications
Location: Flexible but must be located within the U.S.

About the Position

IREC seeks a Communications Manager to support the implementation of communications strategies that increase awareness of IREC’s mission, programs, and impact among key audiences, including policymakers, regulators, industry stakeholders, and partner organizations.

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, the Communications Manager will play a key role in developing and executing communications across multiple channels, including digital platforms, email communications, media outreach, and program-specific communications initiatives. The Communications Manager will collaborate closely with program teams to translate complex clean energy topics into clear, compelling content and help ensure consistent messaging across the organization.

This role is ideal for a communications professional who is both a strong writer and a proactive project manager, comfortable managing multiple communications initiatives in a fast-moving nonprofit environment.

Responsibilities

Communications Content and Messaging

  • Draft and edit communications materials, including blog posts, email announcements, website content, press releases, and program updates.
  • Translate technical clean energy topics into clear and accessible communications for a range of audiences.
  • Collaborate with program teams to develop communications strategies and materials for reports, tools, and initiatives.

Digital Communications

  • Manage and contribute to IREC’s digital communications channels, including social media platforms and the IREC website.
  • Develop social media content and strategies to expand IREC's reach and engagement.
  • Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

Email Communications

  • Support the development and distribution of email communications to IREC’s audiences, including newsletters and program announcements.
  • Assist with maintaining subscriber lists and ensuring effective audience segmentation.

Program Communications Support

  • Work with program teams to develop outreach materials, including fact sheets, case studies, blog posts, and graphics, that highlight program achievements and impact.
  • Coordinate with external partners and collaborators to support communications related to joint initiatives and projects.

Metrics and Performance Tracking

  • Track and analyze communications metrics, including website analytics, email engagement, and social media performance.
  • Contribute to internal reporting on communications outcomes and identify opportunities to strengthen impact.

Additional Communications Support

  • Assist with media outreach and press engagement when appropriate.
  • Contribute to new communications initiatives and special projects as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public policy, environmental studies, or a related field
  • 3–5 years of professional communications experience
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including the ability to communicate complex topics clearly to non-technical audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners
  • Experience with email marketing tools and CRM systems
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software platforms and digital tools
  • Interest in clean energy, climate policy, or related fields

Preferred

  • Familiarity with website platforms such as WordPress
  • Basic graphic design skills for reports, presentations, or social media graphics
  • Experience analyzing communications metrics and performance data
  • Knowledge of or experience in the clean energy sector
  • Familiarity with marketing automations and integrations
