Multimedia Art Director

About IW Group

IW Group is the leading multicultural advertising and marketing agency with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. Named Ad Age’s 2025 Multicultural Agency of the Year and recognized by PRWeek for Best in Multicultural Marketing, IW Group produces culture-shaping campaigns for global and national brands.

IW Group drives impactful work by blending storytelling, cultural insight, and innovation to achieve measurable results. We represent multiple brands and deliver distinctive multicultural and cross-generational campaigns.

The Role
We’re looking for a Multimedia Art Director who lives at the intersection of culture, ideas, design, and technology.

You’re someone who follows what’s happening, not just in advertising, but across culture, social media, and technology. You understand how younger audiences, particularly Gen Z, communicate and consume content, and you have a strong interest in or knowledge of AAPI audiences and the cultures shaping today’s audiences.

You’re equally excited by coming up with the idea and bringing it to life. You can concept a campaign, design social content, use AI to push an idea and execution further, and collaborate with writers, strategists, and producers to make the work better.

You’re also genuinely excited about the creative possibilities of generative AI. You have a strong command of AI tools, actively experiment with emerging platforms and workflows, and see AI as a way to expand ideation, exploration, and execution, not as a substitute for taste, craft, or original thinking.

We’re looking for a curious, self-motivated creative who has a strong point of view but isn’t precious about it—someone who welcomes collaboration, responds thoughtfully to feedback, and is always looking for a fresher, smarter, more unexpected way into the work.

What You’ll Do

  • Concept and create. Develop original creative ideas for integrated campaigns, social content, activations, digital experiences, pitches, and other brand expressions, and bring those ideas to life.
  • Think social-first. Create ideas that feel native to the platforms and communities where they’ll live, with a strong understanding of social behaviors, formats, creators, trends, and emerging platforms.
  • Design with a strong point of view. Create polished visual work across static, motion, video, digital, and social formats with excellent taste, composition, and attention to detail.
  • Use AI as a creative tool. Confidently incorporate generative AI and emerging creative technologies into ideation, visual exploration, prototyping, production, and workflow, while maintaining strong creative judgment and craft.
  • Turn culture into creative opportunity. Stay actively plugged into social and cultural trends and identify moments, behaviors, conversations, and insights that can inspire relevant work.
  • Bring a Gen Z perspective. Understand the visual language, humor, behaviors, communities, and rapidly changing media habits shaping younger audiences without relying on clichés or chasing trends for their own sake.
  • Explore new creative territory. Push beyond the first or most obvious idea. Bring multiple approaches to the table and continually look for work that feels fresh, distinctive, culturally relevant, and unexpected.
  • Collaborate across disciplines. Work closely with copywriters, strategists, account teams, producers, creators, and other designers to develop ideas from concept through execution.
  • Present and articulate ideas. Clearly communicate the thinking behind your work internally and with clients, connecting creative decisions back to the idea, audience, culture, and business objective.
  • Respond thoughtfully to feedback. Listen to client and internal feedback, understand the underlying need, and find creative solutions that strengthen the work rather than simply executing changes literally.
  • Own your projects. Manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously, communicate proactively, and take responsibility for moving your work forward.
  • Keep learning. Stay curious about culture, technology, design, emerging creative tools, and the diverse communities our work represents.

What You’ll Bring
Education and Experience

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in graphic design, multimedia design, art direction, advertising, social creative, content creation, or a related discipline.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong conceptual thinking and strong execution.
  • A strong eye for design, typography, composition, visual storytelling, and craft.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop original, surprising, and culturally relevant creative ideas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An understanding of AAPI cultures and communities, or, just as importantly, genuine curiosity, humility, and eagerness to learn. We don’t expect one person to understand every community or experience.
  • Experience creating across multiple media, which may include social, digital, motion, video and experiential.
  • Strong command of generative AI tools, with an appetite for continually experimenting with new creative technology.
  • The ability to move comfortably between big-picture thinking and hands-on execution.
  • A self-starter mentality. You can take an open-ended assignment, find an interesting way in, and move it forward without waiting for every step to be defined.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to balance multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-moving agency environment.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach. You make the work and the people around you better.
