Position Overview

As a Heavy-Duty Truck Welder/Fabricator, you'll perform welding, fabrication, modification, and structural repair work on heavy-duty commercial trucks, gravel trains, dump trucks, trailers, and related equipment.

This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable working with heavy steel, understands how to build and repair components that withstand demanding working conditions, and takes pride in producing strong, clean, professional work.

You'll work on everything from structural repairs and reinforcement to custom brackets, mounts, supports, truck and trailer components, and one-off fabrication projects.

Every job can present a different challenge, so we're looking for someone who can look at a problem, determine the best way to repair or build it, and turn that solution into quality finished work.

What You'll Do

• Perform welding and fabrication on heavy-duty trucks, gravel trains, dump trucks, trailers, and commercial equipment
• Fabricate, repair, modify, and reinforce steel components
• Perform structural repairs on truck and trailer components
• Weld and repair dump bodies, beds, trailers, brackets, mounts, supports, and related equipment
• Fabricate custom parts and components based on the needs of the repair
• Measure, cut, fit, form, and assemble steel and other materials
• Perform MIG welding and other welding processes as required
• Use plasma cutters, torches, grinders, saws, drills, and other fabrication equipment
• Remove damaged or worn components and fabricate replacement pieces when necessary
• Repair cracks, broken welds, damaged brackets, supports, and structural components
• Perform reinforcement and modification work on trucks and trailers
• Read measurements, drawings, and specifications to complete fabrication projects
• Inspect completed welds and fabrication work for quality and proper fit
• Work with diesel technicians and Service Advisors to determine effective repair solutions
• Document repairs and materials accurately
• Maintain welding and fabrication equipment
• Work safely while maintaining a clean and organized work area
• Complete repairs with an emphasis on strength, safety, durability, and quality workmanship

What We're Looking For

• Welding and fabrication experience
• Experience working with heavy steel and structural components
• MIG welding experience
• Ability to measure, cut, fit, and fabricate components accurately
• Experience using common welding and fabrication equipment
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
• Ability to determine how damaged components should be repaired, reinforced, or replaced
• Ability to work independently on fabrication projects
• Attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
• Valid driver's license
• Team-oriented attitude and strong work ethic
• Ability to perform the physical requirements associated with heavy-duty fabrication work

Heavy truck experience is preferred, but we're also interested in experienced welders and fabricators from heavy equipment, construction, agricultural, trailer, structural steel, or similar industries.

Bonus Qualifications

• Heavy-duty truck or trailer fabrication experience
• Gravel train or dump truck experience
• Dump body and trailer repair experience
• Structural welding experience
• Aluminum welding experience
• TIG welding experience
• Experience with hydraulic equipment and components
• Experience with truck frames, crossmembers, brackets, mounts, and suspension-related fabrication
• Ability to read fabrication drawings or blueprints
• Welding certifications
• State of Michigan Certifications
• CDL or willingness to obtain one
• Heavy-duty diesel or mechanical repair experience
