About the role

Kings River Packing is seeking an experienced Controller to join our Finance & Accounting leadership team. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Accounting, this role is responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, treasury activities, internal controls, and administrative functions across multiple entities.

 

This role will play a key leadership role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records, driving timely month-end and year-end close processes, maintaining GAAP compliance, supporting audits and tax reporting, and providing financial insights that support operational and strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate is a hands-on CPA with strong leadership skills, multi-entity accounting experience, and a commitment to continuous improvement.


What you'll do

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations across three entities, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, and Payroll oversight.
  • Lead and manage the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Review and approve complex accounting transactions and cross-functional journal entries to ensure proper general ledger classification.
  • Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ensure adherence to company accounting policies.
  • Develop, implement, and strengthen internal controls and financial reporting processes.
  • Coordinate annual reviews and audits with external CPA firms, including preparation of supporting schedules and audit documentation.
  • Prepare tax workpapers and supporting schedules for external tax return preparation.
  • Manage approved banking transactions and support cash management activities.
  • Monitor accounts receivable aging and collaborate with management on collection efforts.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for accounting personnel, including direct supervision of Accountants and the AR & Credit Manager.
  • Lead a team consisting of 4 direct reports and 8 indirect reports.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, operational efficiencies, and scalable accounting practices.
  • Partner with executive leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic initiatives.
  • Support special projects and initiatives driven by the Director of Finance & Accounting, CFO, and company leadership.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Minimum 2 years of public accounting experience required.
  • Experience leading and developing accounting teams.
  • Experience in a multi-entity accounting environment; agribusiness experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and audit processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proficient in all other Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Experience implementing or administering an ERP system; experience with FAMOUS Software is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with a service-focused attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands & Abilities

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while working on a computer and participating in meetings.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
  • Regular onsite work schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexibility to adjust hours during month-end close, audit periods, budgeting cycles, and other business needs.


Our Benefits

  • $150,000 - $170,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
